No seriously, you already know I'm into my tropical fish, love fishing, but don't get to do enough.
I actually like what I do for a living, I get a kick out of making things from timber. I reckon if I learnt to weld I'd enjoy that too.
I spend way too much time on this computer.
I'll give any sport a go.
That's about it I think, if I decide to do anything else I'll let you know.

Oh! can't forget that awesome jetski, snorkling, wouldn't mind getting a scuba ticket (I even have a ships masters ticket)

And one more thing........<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">GO THE ROOSTERS</span>

used to love my rugby, indoor cricket and touch footy, but the supreme being decided it would be more fun if i rattled and ached, so i then went for fishing, after a short time the supreme being decided it would be even more fun if my fine motor skills went to crap along with my eyesight.... sigh

Well as some of you may be aware I'm a Reg/Nurse but my hobbies are far flung from that, I have my own workshop with a metal turning lathe, small mill/drill, pedastal drill and hundreds of Taps and Dies, compressor, grit blaster, Oxy, Mig, Arc welders, etc etc. I've had Landrovers since 1970 when I bought my first one, had experience in them before that though, I like tinkering with them (as you might have guessed) I have a Live Steam model Locomotive (over all length 5' 4") that I built in 5" gauge it's a NSWGR 32 class engine (4.6.0) it hasn't run on steam as yet but it runs on compressed air forward and reverse so if it will run on air (no expansion quality) it will run on steam when I get around to it, I also go camping (Ultra/lightweight), 4wd touring, fishing (sold my boats they died of thirst) still have 16' canoe and Minn-kota electric outboard when the urge takes me, used to own handguns until recently (sold them gun buy back gave me $10,600) to play with) still shoot with Long arms (rilfes) always have reloaded my own ammo and I've cast a hell of a lot of slugs over the years I still have about 3/4 ton of Linotype lead left over not sure what to do with that as yet. I also have a hankering for Photography still have and use my first 35mm SLR Pentax Spotmatic (have 3 x 35mmSLR's) medium format Mamiya 645 (beautiful camera) 3 video cams I really like the digital Panasonic, and the digital Sony camera qiuck and easy. I like to weld ( I aslo have a mate who is a certified/pressure etc) if I can't do it, I can't make a bloody thing out of wood except a fire, we have 2 toy poodles and a pomeranian they keep the wife busy and sometimes get on this thing called a computer which I'm not really any good at can't post pix etc but anyway thats me, Oh I almost forgot not interested in football etc will watch the start of Bathurst race (but in my humble opinion it's lost it's way) maybe I'm just an old fart (56) but I dont give a #$%^&   and I don't have a mortgage style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif I only go to work to support my Habits Landrovers 8) 8)

Hey Guys,

Ok, my hobbies are (and boy, I'm gonna sound like the biggest tomboy now.....)

NRL - (GO YOU EELS!!!-now my North Sydney Bears  are gooooone)
nothing better than a watching a Sunday game with beers up at the local!

Fishing - go at least once a month (more if i have the time)

Camping - go at least 2-3 times a year (more if i have time)
& 4wdriving

Sunbaking - as often as i can! (our neighbours must love that part - as quite often the flatmate and myself just bake in our backyard 8O  )

 LOVE my Motor Sports - V8, Bathurst,
RallyAustralia (RIP Possum Bourne!-was a brilliant Rally driver!!)Targa Tasmania
Formula 1 (will someone get Webber a decent car please...)
Oh yeh - Bikes too -(MotoGP) go Troy Bayliss!!

Tropical Fishes - I have had tanks for 15 years, but now would be the first time i dont own one! - but i do look after (sort of) the tanks in our office - one was my old one (40+ fish) and another one (12+fish) -So i am the resident tank advisor in our office.

Cooking - yep (the way to a mans heart is... ....no, seriously - i just love food - and I'm always cooking - i love to eat) - which brings me to one of my most favorite hobbies = YUMCHA = love to have yumcha as often as i can (will never say no to a Yumcha meal!)

Just started a team up and we play 'slowpitch' softball on Tuesday nights now! (we're playing people that are on Channel 9 TV - they're pretty crap players too which makes them big on the 'sledging' - they haven't met me yet! BRING IT ON!

And DRINKING - still an old favorite of mine! - and this also means some wicked dancing too!! 8O

Ok, i've gone on enough here.....gotta start doing some work...

Cheers

Hi guys/gals,

Pretty much anything mechanical I can have a dig at, I love. I'm starting full time UNI next year to do mechanical engineering (to support my growing LR addiction). Have been in the SES for almost 3 years now, and have been a team leader for 2 of them. Love doing hands on stuff like chainsawing, rope work, etc. The usual camping and 4wding. Have been seriously contemplating doing a trip through central oz in the next year or so. I'd love to go down the west coast from darwin to perth (In my next LR - TD5 series 2 disco or D90).

I'm trying to learn to play the guitar atm, but re-training my clunky mechanics hands is proving a little difficult style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif I love all things music, and am also a pretty keen film buff.

Dream job is to be a helicopter pilot, so I'll be working towards that in the next 50 years or so...

Knight, interesting you should mention the slowpitch comp. I used to work at 9 a not long ago, and some ex colleagues of mine were in the teams (there are 2 channel 9 teams now I think). They seemed to really enjoy it, especially because they were sponsored by the bridgeview hotel. A free case after every match!

Cheers all,

Bryan

SWS - It's that Small World Syndrome again Kretcheman!!

Yep, there are 2 Channel 9 teams playing with us this year! - too funny!
(Lets hope these teams keep the sledging 'low key' cause they dont want us to pipe up on em'! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif )
Sponsored huh?? (man- they had a case of VB last week)

Well I'll let you know how they go then - we play one team in Dec and the other in Jan...

Seriously, it's a great social comp - with more beer than I've ever seen

GAME ON!!

Cheers

22nd November 2004, 11:02 AM
Absolutely! I'm from Canberra originally, and i thought it was only a small world there, but nope, it's everywhere...

It sounded like a very social comp to me. Beers in the out field during the game and all! Reminds me of a club cricket match I was watching one day when the non-striking batter had the umpire hold his ciggie for him when the bowler was on his run up style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Aussie sport. How good is it...

Knight

Sound quite familiar

- Our catcher was asked to put his beer down whist catching
(ONLY cause we had lent him to our opposition as they were a player short - hmmm, will rethink that 'random act of kindness' next time i think)
- should have told them no! - we lend him to you and he plays with beer in hand or nothing!!

But, yes, it is very social if anything!

Cheers

Mine would have to be:

-- Rugby League (Go the Bunnies! although I use to have a soft spot for the Bears and saw many a game up at the 'Log Cabin' before they were put into permanent hibernation!).

-- Touch footy on Tuesday nights to stop the joints from seizing up.

-- Camping, fishing, photography.

-- Gardening, combined with drinking, listening to weekend sport on the radio.

Well, at least I am not the only shooter! Apart from the anti-social sport of pistol shooting and a bit of rifle, I am a bit of a militaria collector, used to make model trains and will do so again some time in the future.
Also have a small business that has yet to grow out of hobby size, hope it does soon.
Love camping and road trips, especially when I get the 5 spd into the the 2dr.

Just about all of the things mentioned so far have absolutely no interest to me.

I last went fishing 45 years ago - and didn't enjoy it then.

Football? Never seen a game of any code (live or on TV) and have absolutely no interest in ever watching a game.

Other (game) sports? No interest at all. I've never played sport and never watch it. Never could understand why people do either.

Shooting? I last fired a rifle about 36 years ago. And couldn't be bothered doing it again.

Boating? I had dad's power boat in my yard for 18 months and that's where it stayed.

Sailing? Tried it a few times but not my cup of tea.

Home Brew? Nope. I don't like beer.

Doing things for kids? Nope, I don't like kids. (I'm glad I never took up one of the teacher's scholarships I had when I left school.)

I used to fly model planes and helicopters, race model boats. I may get back into it one day. Flew full-size gliders for a while.

Sold my motorbike (Honda CBR1000F) earlier this year. I may buy another bike one day.

My aim is to one day build a steam locomotive. And I'd love to get my full size heli pilot licence but I could never afford it.

Current hobbies. Readin', 'ritin' and 'rithmetic - and LRs. I like using my lathe. I've got a pretty well set up workshop.

Current job - signaller on the NSW railways.

With a wife and five kids I don't have the time OR money for hobbies.

Camping/fishing is my vise ( also beer/cigars ) and the kids sometimes get invited along if they've been behaving themselves.

Also like making things out of wood/metal but mostly on an as needs (demand) basis. I probably spend a lot more time designing things for home/play when I'm at work than I should 8) but what my boss doesn't know, wont hurt me.

Me, I'm an ex Motorcycle Racer/Rider, MX and Road. Can't watch it on telly as I end up wanting to get back into it all the time. Get my fix now by helping out at a mates Kawasaki dealership from time to time. Turn up on a Saturday morning take a few demo's for a quick blast around, try and sell a few, and that tide's me over for a few more weeks.
Also used to play Aussie rules footy and Water polo.
The last big venture has been white water kayaking. Competed in a few Avon Decents in WA, managed to finish 3rd in a 4 man Kayak one year 2nd in class in a K1 another year, Finished a few others in the K1, tried it in a Power boat and DNF after jumping the Weir and bending a prop shaft.
However old age, crash's and maturity has caught up with me now.
Thinking about dusting off the K1 for another tilt at the Avon this year. I just keep thinking of all that training and those cold cold mornings. 8O
Now it seems I spend all my free time gardening and doing kid things  Oh well the shackels will loosen up one day.

Knight, after reading the list of your hobbies it's just another reason we are all in love with you. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif 8)

My hobbies (in no particular order):
Camping
Shooting (Rifle and Shotty)
Aviation History (member Qld Air Museum)
Maritime History / Shipwrecks
Writing (all sorts of stuff)
Motorbikes (I'd like a Guzzi please)
Rugby League (Go the mighty Tigers !!!. The mighty BALMAIN Tigers.)
AULRO website (I hardly use the computer for anything else)
Taking the **** out of Pedro_the_Swift

There's probably more, but that's enough to keep anyone busy.

EDIT: I should also have included Ancient History :!: I love it, studied it at Uni as well. Can't believe I forgot it, but then again - it's all in the past

For those interested in trains.
The BHP Iron Ore train broke the world record for heaviest train in its May 28, 1996 run from Australian cities Newman to Port Hedland. The 10 locomotives and 540 ore cars had a combined mass of 7.22 x 107 kg.

Holds the world record for it too.

Heaviest Freight Train
The heaviest-ever train weighed 99,732.1 tonnes (220 million lb) and was 7.353 km (4,568 miles) long. Assembled by Australia's BHP Iron Ore, the train travelled 275 km (171 miles) from the company's Newman and Yandi mines to Port Hedland, Western Australia, on June 21, 2001 The train had 5,648 wheels, and was assembled to test out a new train control system, which essentially allows the driver in the front locomotive to control the other seven engines simultaneously, even though they are spaced at intervals of nearly a kilometre along the length of the train.

on a daily basis this train is between 4 - 6 k's long.

It is a lot of dirt to be shifting about.

Yanks dont like our road trains here either.

Up to 5 dogs long and even over that sometimes.

Hi bigbugga, the very reason I bought my first 4WD was to go for a trip up your way to have a look at the railways.
3 Landies later and I’m still looking forward to my trip to the Northwest.
I made a trip by rail to Alice Springs in 1972 and I was up at the lookout, watching the goings on in the railway yard. When this Shell prime mover backs up onto a string of flat cars and about 10 minutes later drives off with 6 road tanker trailers in tow.
Still got the photo.

I've been keeping and breeding reptiles for the past 25 years, as well as travelling all over the countryphotographing them and other wildlife. Until recently my collection numbered over 500 animals. Work started taking up too much of my time so I've had to cut down the numbers somewhat.I also keep about 20 different species of native waterfowl and various parrots. Riding my Moto Guzzi big distances in small times, leaving home in the morning and going to sleep over a 1000ks away in the Defender, landscaping the new home, drinking beer on the verandah whilst listening to 70s punk rock, pig hunting and vermin destruction, dog walking(I have 4)and acting like the same idiot I was when I was 18.

Now that I have cracked 40, I desided to restrict my hobbies to legal ones.

I love fishing but only if camping, and using the landy to get to a spot that one one else can get to is included.

motor bikes, but I lost a leg on one so I don't ride that much anymore but I still love em.

Horses, I cant ride for you know what, but my lady has two and I ride with her.

I am currently building a non registerable suzuki 4WD that I am trying to make unboggable. I am using 38" ASLAV tyres for it, so it will damn near float.

love photography - I want to buy a Nikon D70 but every time I get near the money for it, I spend it on the landy

And a five acre block which takes up much of my time.

Theres probably more but senile dementia seems to be big on my list (according to my lady when I don't fix or make things that she wants)

Cheers Blitz
