Does anyone have one that we could have a look at? Maybe ask a few questions while we're there... We are in south east Melbourne. Closer the better, but willing to drive a bit. It seems difficult to view one through retailers, but at the price, we feel it's mandatory to at least see one first!

Cheers.

I am afraid that I am not in Melbourne but you won't regret one!

When we were looking for ours original RTT nearly 5 years ago in South Africa we were subject to what was available on the second hand market. We were hoping that a Hannibal or Howling moon would come up at the right price.

We were lucky and got a 1.2 Howling Moon Deluxe which was old but the right price and served us well until an altercation with a carpark and the zips wore out which prompted a replacement with another Howling Moon, this time a 1.4 stargazer.

I have friends with both hannibal and chinese type RTTs and I am so glad we have Howling Moon.

The major drawback with Hannibal that I see is the inability to remove canvas or cover easily. whilst you shouldn't need to do this if you have to repair or replace poles, zips, hinges or canvas being easily able to slip the canvas on and of in minutes or cover on/off in seconds seems a big advantage. A friend had to replace the cover on their hannibal recently and it took some hours for hannibal staff to do at the factory!

As long as you are happy with the whole RTT thing then even if you cannot get a Howling Moon to look at believe me they are excellent tents!

Cheers

Thanks John, that's good to know. I wasn't convinced on the Howling Moon initially but research does seem to suggest that you get what you pay for. We're considering the 1.6 stargazer.

We're considering the 1.6 stargazer.

Go for it, they are an excellent tent and a great company to deal with in South Africa, Australia and their agents in the UK.

I would also recommend their fitted sheets for the RTTs they are a revelation, far better than the flat sheets we used to battle with and great quality. When I ordered them I thought we they'll be easier than before but they'll just be camping sheets but no, they are supper high quality fabric, super crisp and at a good price. I relish a night in the RTT!
