Good thing they don't have any Greenies there to stop them turning fossil ground water into vast acreages of soggy green lawns. Let them put in a couple of hundred coal fired desal plants, that'll fix 'em fer shure.

They've got more greenies there than sensible folk - put a stop to Australian business there anyway.

Strain vainly to explain with your brain, or were you being sarcastic when you wrote "...don't have any greenies there..."

BHP is no longer the "proud Australian" it once claimed to be.

I applaud the people of California , even though wanting the LNG , were not prepared to compromise their standards.

What is wrong with that?

Can you imagine the state this world would be in if it wasn't for environmentalists....I won't use the word greenies....I think it's quite disgusting the way it is said and used.

They are like protective angels for our future.

Agreed. I think there is a place for environmental scientists, educated, rational, non-aligned with political parties, honest people with good intentions.

I detest the inference that a political party can hold the monopoly on environmental stewardship.

I think we have the right balance with industry, where environmental consultation is a pre-requisite in any significant project. The Californian government obviously consulted with professional environmental scientists.

The notion that a political party is needed to keep an eye on environmentally sustainable development, is a clear failing to understand the process. If anything the protests have served their purpose and the environment is a primary consideration in this age. So to the greenies - shave the dreadlocks, get a job, realise your campaign is for something that already exists, move on and let the economy, society, business and government do their thing...

My position is more than ideological, I have a public health science background, and my impression is that there are suitable checks, balances and accountabilities. Sometimes the legal system, political system and self-interest groups don't all agree, but they all have a right to consult, this is a quantum leap in standard over the last 30 years. Anymore interference in simply grandstanding and a failure to recognise what a modern society is.

Just my 5c (don't have a 2c piece).
