G'day all, I have an 06 Discovery 3 with an aftermarket GPS installed in the dash. A VDO Dayton PC5100.
I bought a cheap reversing camera from eBay which fits into one of the number plate light sockets on the back of the car and my plan was to wire the camera to the display for the nav system in the dashboard.
I get a picture but it’s black and white when it should be colour, the top 10% or so of the picture rolls to the bottom of the display so it’s shown at the bottom below a border and I get noise (static) from the nav speaker. Not quite the outcome I was hoping for.
The first scan is the spec for the camera which shows video output at 1.0 Vpp but doesn’t give any value for the CSYNCN. I’ve asked the supplier for this via email but I think language might be a bit of a barrier so I still don’t know what it is.
The 2nd scan is some detail I found on the net for the Nav system which details what the various leads are in the cable which I spliced into. You’ll note it also details the standard camera which goes with that system outputs at 0.7 Vpp with CSYNCN at -0.3 Vpp.
The 3rd scan is some stuff I found on a forum, again relating to my nav system, which details where the writer suggests the camera needs to connect. I followed his advice connecting the + video out to pin #10 and the negative or shield from the camera to pin #3. The video output lead is an RCA jack so only 2 wires. Putting the car in reverse puts 12v to pin #12 which tells the nav display to take it’s input from the camera not the nav computer.
Lastly I’ve also attached a photo of the nav display. You can see the picture, the border (black line just up from the bottom) and then the top bit of picture which is actually below that border/black line.
So, if all that makes sense, is my problem the 1.0Vpp output instead of 0.7Vpp or is it more likely the CSYNCN value from my camera isn’t compatible with the display or have a I wired it up wrong.
Any advice anyone can give I'd appreciate
