Roof Tile Cement/Mortar????

Today I had to fix a Plumbing issue within the edge of my roof. (Above the Eaves and on the Corner)
I had to lift a couple of Roof Tiles, and the Cement holding the ridge cap ones (don't know the proper term) has come away from the Tiles.
Question is..... do I need to purchase a special mortar to repair them.
The stuff that has been used seems to be very well stuck on the remaining Tiles, and the Cracked bits I tried to pick out, were also very well stuck.
If I get a bag of General Purpose pre mixed Cement from Bunnings or the like is it going to be sufficient.
I'm not fussed about colour matching, it's next to the Chimney and can't really be seen.

Hi,
I fixed ridge tile back on with a moist mix of 1 cement, 5 coarse sand. I'm no expert, but it hasn't moved yet.
If you use gp pre mix, sift out the gravel and only use half the mix with all the cement in the little bag.

Did the same. Just grabbed a bag of mortar from The Bunnings, and used that.

That was about 5 or so years ago, and its still up there.

This is on my list of things to do. I bought everyday mortar from bunnings as well as "bond crete". You add a little in the mortar and it acts as an adhesive. Helps if the mortar needs to stick to other old mortar or generally an old surface that is not perfectly clean and new.

You can now buy poly based grout for ridge caps, but when I had to lift mine recently, I just glued it all back together with a cylinder of brown silastic.
Works a treat.

Are you saying you replaced the mortar under the ridge cap entirely? Or just sat the ridge cap back on existing mortar and glued it on with silastic?

If you want to do it properly go with the mortar mix and bond crete. Chip off the old stuff. Silastic or silicone won't last too long. Mind you those products provided my roofing division with lots of work over the years!

This stuff.....using normal mortar or GP cement and even with bond crete will not be as water proof or flexible as this. Roof tiles flex heaps during the day.
