Good Morning knowlegable people :)

I might have an opportuntiy to pick up a D1 with a mixer gas system in it, all parts are there including the scuba tanks for the rear. It sounds similar to what another forum member has in his D2, but I am not sure.

The brand of the system is Torquegas and below are a few photos.

Can anyone help me out to identify the system further and know if it is suitable for use on a 4.0l D2 V8???

I don't recommend fitting a mixer system to a D2 as they are much more prone to backfiring due to mixture faults. You'd also need to find an electronic mixture controller to match. Not to say it can't be done but you have to be very light footed to avoid backfires. I have managed to fit mixer systems to D2s but replaced the plastic air box with a destruction resistant one off an early RRC EFI system.

You're better off hunting for a used injection system front end, wrecking yards dealing in V8 Holdens and Fords should get them in occasionally. Many injection kits are quite adaptable and are relatively easy to tune for another engine providing you have the correct software and tuning adaptor.

The tank itself will of course fit the D2 but those things are cheap nowadays, they go for as little as $50 on ebay.

I agree with Bee-Utey. I had a venturi system on my P38A and eventually removed it due to the no. of backfires, blown off hoses, and damaged air filter boxes (not cheap). My wife would not drive the car on LPG.

It now has an injected system fitted.

Sorry CJT when I replied to your PM I thought you were looking at twin tanks between the rails. The ones in your photos are exactly like mine - very good set up given how high the rear cargo area is - stick a false floor on and you dont lose much room and you have room to the sides also.

Per my PM and Beutey above go injection. I ran a Lambda controlled mixer and main tap for years in my D2 but due to the waste spark set up the occasional stray spark with the 'right' throttle and air mix and she would backfire. Never does that on injected. Injected gives great economy and power and torque.

Cheers

Do not use a mixer system

Sequential injectors are the only way to go from my experience of +++++++++++++++++++ back fires never had any trouble since the upgrade

PS didn't notice any fuel improvement, but reliabilty = 100%
