View Full Version : rear spring popped out of locating thingy

While playing on the weekend the right hand rear spring has popped (in part) out of its locating thing.
I'd had it jacked to full height from the opposite axle but still not enough clearance on the RHS to move the spring back into where it belongs.
Any thoughts as to how to fix this?

Undo your shock!
Jack up the side that's popped
Put it back in
Refit shock

why are you jacking from the opposite side?
pretty much as tombie said
remove wheel
remove shock from bottom mount
axle should drop lower enough
if you have a suitable lift point I have a hi-lift jack........
if you are still struggling by this afternoon I am happy to pop around and assist.
maybe a hose clamp on the top to stop it popping out

Do you mean jack from the axle housing) or the chassis?
Its all in the technique I guess. Thanks for the tips. Wonder whether the trolley jack will be enough?
Hose clamp or zip ties?

I would lift the chassis near the trailing arm mount.

Unbolt the two rear mounts for the swaybar, before you jack it, that can be enough to stop it flexing fully, and unbolt the shock top eye. Watch fingers. As weight comes back done you can wack it with a bar if it doesn't want to line up, watch your fingers when it seats it seats with a bang!:D

My 110 had dislocation cones to reseat the spring after full articulation. They should prevent this happening again.
BTW, did this happen while in GHM, and did you not get it fixed before you got home?

I can't help reset the springs, but I can ask if you have pics of the flex required to unseat them...:wasntme:

I used a pair of spring compressors on mine. I jacked the chassis up off the ground as far as it would go, then dropped it 1/2 to 1 inch. Attached the spring compressor, did it up lightly, then jacked it up again. The spring comprressor stops it from expanding and then it popped in by itself.
Be careful though - you really only want to compress the springs 1 inch at most with the compressor - as it stored a lot of energy and if it were to break you might lose an appendage.

Up to 4" extended coils you can just drop the shock and push in by hand :)
