Love him or hate him,you can't deny he has been at the forefront of the keep Australia unlocked fight.I personally think Roothy is a bloody legend and he has inspired many to take the family and see this awesome country of ours.

To give up what would be the best job in the world making 4WD action DVD's,to focus on keep Australia unlocked speaks volumes about the man.The huge crowd that turned out at Land cruiser mountain park shows that people of all backgrounds and ages love the man.

The 2 DVD set features some very good footage of four wheel driving and the awesome people and the trucks they have built. The DVD also features some footage of "big red" getting pulled out by a Defender. Also a rare thing for 4WD action DVD's is there is 2 Discovery's in the feature section.

All in all a very good watch and a fitting send off to a true champion, good luck in all the things the future holds for you Roothy.:D So guys get down to the news agent and get your copy.

I agree with the unlock Australia concept however I have also seen roothy and his team cutting up tracks and damaging the environment which is one reason to bring forward closures.......plenty of other factors thrown into the mix, the worst being the tree huggers

I watched these DVD's the other day. Your right, a good send off with plenty of vehicles to look at,,, including I think "Muddy", (?), a member from QLD was there.

I have watched every DVD for the last few years, and for me, although I love watching them, IMHO, Roothy is now trying to "undo" what he is effectively responsible for.
His love and admiration of big lifts, big tyres and big horsepower is a fair part of the reason that tracks/area's are being locked down.
Whilst louts keep tearing up the bush and leaving they're rubbish laying around, we have no chance of stopping whats being done.

And before anyone decides to get into me about ripping up various tracks,,, yes I have, something I'm not very proud of, but then at that time, when it came to the bush,,, we were very uneducated.
Leading up to the "Tread Lightly" theme, as it, and other information/concerns came along, we took it all on board, respected the general view that came with that, and thus we behaved.
Private land,,, a whole different story ;) which not everyone has access to I know. But rule's are rule's I guess, and we followed them with respect.

The general behavior of these big lifted rigs and they're drivers need to be stopped, but who really knows how to do that, who knows what the answer is??
The education has now been in place a long time, but no one seems to care. The reallity of locked gates is very real and belting us all in the face, but still they dont head the warnings.

Had the pleasure of spending some time with him and his crew up at Kalumburu 2 years ago.
Champion man and very passionate about keeping the gates open.

I read that John Rooth has left 4x4 Action mag and is going to put all his efforts into the unlock Australia fight. Sounds a good idea.
?
Anyone know what that means ?
I mean where is he going to work. Who will be his employer etc.
Lecture tours ?
Letter to the editors ?
Dole ?

Sorry, I am not really a Roothy fan so I may have just missed the thread.
He has a following and I am not trying to put him down.

I am curious to know what he is upto next ?

Has he retired and is he going to stand on street corners handing out pamphlets about these closures.
If he is not retiring where is he off to.

You own up to having "torn up" tracks yourself, then bag people with "big lifts and tyres" hypocrisy much?

I've seen just as many little tyred stock vehicles tearing up the place, if not more, I've seen many members on this very forum having fun in the bush that could be construed as tearing up tracks...

Pull your head in, one in, all in.....none of us have a NEED to be there, all of us however WANT to be there, no hope when everybody is fighting each other, Nissan that, big tyre this, land rover that....pfft

There is some money to be had in advocacy and lobbying. I don't think he will be struggling for a feed.

Sorry dude, but you should probably re-read my post.

You are right in one thing thing though, there's certainly a large number of, shall we say, small trucks, doing considerable damage to tracks as well, once again, my belief is it comes down to training/education etc, and
if training involves watching these DVD's, then what do you expect.

As stated, when "I" started with 4x4-ing, some 30 odd years ago, there was no such thing. We were ignorant of the consequences, but through education, we changed.

Good riddance to that tool. Like a previous poster said. Trying to undo all the damage he has already done

I re-read it plenty before replying, those 'little tyred people' against 'big tyred' people comments are rubbish, there are knobheads in every group

But if you cause division in your group, you loose numbers, its simple as that, I've met plenty of people with 30+ years experience in my time, still running road pressures in the bush, tearing stuff up, years don't always count as knowledge either......travelled the simpson with a few, would not listen and continually getting stuck:(

Waste of time, NP will NEVER re-open something they have closed for good, NEVER, if it's ear marked as closed for maintenance, then yes, only way to have things opened, is to lobby the Govt and then it will only happen if there is something in it for the Govt.

As long as people are tearing up the bush, damaging infrastructure, leaving rubbish behind, nothing will change, especially in NSW.

Using Stockton as an example, that will re-open when, NP and the traditional owners think it is ready, and you will never get it all back, as a lot of the area thought to be public land, was never public land, it is and was always Mining lease.

Victoria on the other hand, they have two great organisations in Vic Parks and the DSE, they at least have places set aside for camping and use seasonal closures to help protect and maintain these tracks and camping areas and the majority are free, of coarse things are changing now, I guess Vic Parks were sick and tired of fixing areas damaged by dickheads and are now charging more fees to cope for this, only down side to this, more of these dickheads will be using the State forests free spots.

I watched the DVD and having been a 4WD action subscriber for 15 years always enjoyed his contribution to the mag, liked his laid back style of journalism myself and likes a bit of a **** take even on Rovers which is fine. He does come off as a bogan, rather that then some high and might know it all who thinks he's better than everyone else (plenty of those around).

Weather you like him or not at least he's doing something about track closures. Weather it'll work only time will tell so good luck to him.

I too have subscribed to 4wd action for many many years, I find that roothy is very Genuine and a down to earth character..

A no rubbish kind of bloke with very clear ideas on things, also if anyone has read the mags he has very interesting yarns and informative articles on Hot Lips his old WW2 Willys jeep:)

Best of luck I say...

Yep well said mate,it's very easy to sit back and call him a dickhead or whatever else,it's a lot harder to do something that will help other Aussie's see this awesome country.

He could have sat back very content with the trips he and 4wd action have taken us all on,but he has chosen to fight to help us and our kids and further generations see more of this country.

Good luck all the way Roothy:D

Awesome work barefoot,to me that relationship makes perfect sense.I would trust a product tested by roothy, you don't spend all that time offroad and not learn a thing or two about what is good and what is ****.

OL have been very smart by adding him to the team, his image or signature on a product will boost sales. And the new job will help roothy pay the bills and keep going on the unlock australia fight.:)

Awesome job roothy has landed..........I'm jealous as it beats the heck out of sitting behind a desk

You're right it's an attempt to boost sales more than anything, just because a celebrity, high profile person puts there name to something doesn't mean it's the best product out there

Jeff Kennett landed the job as independent arbiter for Coles supermarkets after years of beating on them when in politics.
Sometimes it is good to have an adversary on your books, even though they know which side their bread is buttered, if anyone is going to find a fault in a product / service / procedure, it's your critics.
