This is what happens when you hit a parked Perentie at 60KPH.
Nothing a bit of paint wont fix, should just buff right out.

Ouch!
Chassis still straight?

No one hurt. Taxi driver was shaken a bit.
Back axle cactus, chassis could be bent, prop pushed down, all looks repairable. The back bumper took most of the impact. all body panel gaps are even.

:( That's a shame. I used to drive past this Perentie on the way to work each morning, she was a good looking unit.
I hope you can get her back together again!

x2. Straightening the chassis is the biggest issue as it really needs to be re-galvanised after.
Richards chassis (or someone else) needs to start making repro perentie chassis.

Ouch - I looks like the perentie was pushed around 5 metres.
Glad everyone was OK

Cheers, I'll check the chassis for damage. :)Park the Perentie on a flat level area of concrete hard stand.
Check the level of the chassis both directions (level it with weights in the body if necessary.)
Then using a plumb-bob, mark the position on the ground of the corners of the chassis and pairs of elements (both sides) along the chassis rails.
When you have all the corners etc, move the Perentie off the marks and then check the diagonals. You can use the specs in the civilian 110 for the dimensions up to the rear spring mounts.
There are going to be slight differences within 2mm-3mm in manufacturing but much more than that will need to be straightened. Anything more than about 10mm-15mm may require replacement chassis (if it doesn't pull out with a chassis jig).
Taxis carry a lot of insurance, but you may be wise not to use your insurance, because they may write your Perentie off. Deal with the taxi's insurance direct.
Remember, you don't have an agreed value with the taxi's insurance company and they do not have a right to your damaged vehicle, but they do have a responsibility to repair the damage caused. If it is dealt with insurance company to insurance company, you may only end up with a cheque.

Good to see. 12 hours after the accident the RTA Placed lines and reflectors on the road to prevent this happening again.
If there was a passenger in the taxi I think it would have killed them.

I wonder if anyone will claim that the lines were there before?
Quickest response I have ever seen! Usually it akes a multi-fatality to force change at all, let alone within a week.
Do you know if you have a buy back option on the Perentie? Should still be worth the purchase price as parts...;)

The Taxi's Insurance company are looking at it tomorrow, They wanted me to get it towed to the Taxi base so I dont have to pay storage costs. I said I want it left where is as its not associated with the Taxi company.

I dont believe the insurance company will have a right to the wreck in the first place?

Most insurance company are happy to allow the buy back option it saves hassle and towing fees. I bought back one of my blandcruiser ute s after some idiot up at red bluff hit me head on driving on the wrong side of the rd . Cost me $500 they just deducted that from the total then sent me a cheque for the rest. I then nearly doubled my money by parting it out :D

Still waiting for their offer, I would like to repair it if possible and get it repaired by KLR with the turbo, It already has power stearing by them and works well.
Cannot be bothered with finding another like it. mint condition before. Bugger the Taxi.

Wow! I have not seen any vehicle (withing reason eg.truck) handle a rear collision like that so well. Makes me feel safer in mine now.
Great to see it all fixed up.
Cheers,

The rear bumper and jerry can holder absorbed a lot of the impact as well as the torsion bars on the rear axle. Just in time for Summer. Yeha.

It absorbed all that impact but is only rated at 900Kg towing (or is that 1200kg towing 900kg + the trailer)?

11th November 2014, 01:08 PM
Surely that would be it's military towing rating, usually half of the civillian rating.

AaronYes it is a Military rating, but given the Perentie 110 has a unique chassis rear end, the military rating is the only one in existence and what the authorities will likely use.
To change it you'll have to get an engineers certification.

I checked the chassis on 4x points with a plumb bob on a level chassis and did a diagional check It was within 2mm across diagonals and was also parallel.
KLR did a perfect job on the mechanicals. Thanks Brad.
