I was working on a fence on the farm recently and I too got to the last post about 4.55pm.

Next morning I strung the wires and finished off the fence! ;)

Good one, but the ceremony could be of interest for those who have lost a loved one, the story of every name on the wall of remembrance , is read out, one each day. Families can see the immediate program, and therefore know if their family member/ friend's story is coming up, or check past stories. Could be of interest to a farmer fencing their property, who may have lost a son or daughter. The ceremony is respectful. Bob

Can't agree with you more. I think that the last post ceremony at 20:00 hrs every evening at Menin Gate is such a moving tribute to the fallen. It has occurred every night since 2nd July 1928.

Apart for a period from 1940 to 1944 when the ceremony was moved to England. However on 6th September 1944 the Last Post ceremony resumed at the Menin Gate, the same day the Polish liberated Ypres even though the battle was still occurring around the city.

Will be in Canberra at the beginning of October, so will certainly make an effort to get there on the Wednesday.

I reckon the kids will learn more by spending a couple of hours at the Memorial, and watching & listening to the Ceremony, than they will in a full school term...
