Jerry can holder security Perentie

Just about to buy a Perentie survey. As with all Perentie the jerry can holders leave the jerry cans exposed to the less than desirables amongst us when at public parking.
So I'm thinking someone on this site has shortly come up with a way of securing your jerry cans whilst in public.

May not help with your survey, but on the soft tops you can wrap a bicycle lock cable around the rear hoop and through the jerry handle.

As soon as I have better use of my right arm ( just had a shoulder surgery) I was going to do this.
Basically it means ruining your Jerry but I was going to weld a false bottom on the jerry with an embedded nut & drill a matching hole in the holder( there are 2 holes there already but they are a bit too close to the indicator) & bolt the buggers down. In my case they are mostly cosmetic but I figured most thieves wouldn't carry a shifter - I might even use Ellen key bolts. Raising the Jerrys a half inch is OK.
Would be a laugh seeing them try to remove them.

This might not suit the army jerry can holders, but you may amend the idea.

I built a dirt bike trailer last year for my sons bikes, I wanted a permanent solution to securing the jerry cans without cables etc.

So after a bit of head scratching I came up with this. I used the prefabricated holders you can by from caravan shops and just added a top section. The hinge mount is just a bolt with a nyloc nut. Works great.

I like this idea.

Just to make it more interesting for the undesirable types, why not fill them with water, and then throw a cup of petrol on the top.

They open them up, sniff the petrol, then syphon the water out for their own car :twisted:

Weld them in, EMPTY, lock the top and get either a hand pump and long enough hose or electric pump. Conceal the welds with some black paint and post YouTube of idiots trying to flog them.

Leaving them at home would be easier, then put them back in when you go camping or to a meet:angel:

Why do you need them when going shopping or in general day to day use:confused:

Thanks for all the replies.Would prefer to leave them on for piece of mind as this is my daily drive and if the fuel gauge is as reliable as the speedo then they might come in handy!!

I had considered a more simple option of spray-stencil the word "oil" and "water" on my jerries, or even "waste oil" or "chip oil"

Just to make it less appealing from a distance.

But the bike lock sounds like a simple fix, I have a few plastic coated steel cable types that are very heavy gauge for motorcycles.

Would negate the issue of paint damage too.
