Hello All,
I am looking at getting my first 4wd.
New Fuji White 2014 disco 4 tdv6 diesel , high ice, leather, tech pack, mats and 5 year warranty.
Is this a smart purchase what sort of price should i pay? Concerned a bit about reliability. Will be used mostly around town, a little bit of off road, i will probably chicken out off roading before the disco does.
Would like to install air compressor, roof rack any else?
Cheers and thankyou,
kris

Mate you can't go wrong with a D4 they are just an absolutely awesome car have a test drive and it will just blow you away they are so comfy and just great to drive. The reliability issues are long gone with Land Rover read in the D3 D4 RRS section and you will see they are very reliable and anyone who tells you other wise has no idea or hasn't owned one.

I've had mine for about 6 months or so now and love it can't get either me or my partner out of the seat hence 21500kms already, always brings a smile to your face giving it a boot and taking off or just cruising the highway so comfy and very nice.

Have a look at the options see what you like and what's really important they are an extremely extremely capable car off road and will go more than enough places anyone could want to go. Probably get the tech pack the leather pack the 7 seat options and that's about all you should need I have the HSE so I'm not really familiar with the TDV6 model. Ring a few places and get the prices check Land Rover site they have a price maker there.

Go for a drive is the best way to sell one they are great!!

I have the 2013 with the same colour and all the same options. Couldn't be more delighted. Brilliant piece of kit. Unsure on current prices, but that doesn't sound too bad with 5 year warranty.

Hi kristian

You will not be making a mistake getting that car, they are truly fantastic in every way. The one thing my wife keeps saying about ours is how beautifully smooth and quiet it is. And when it has gone off road, its awesome.

We got our '14 TDV6 late May, with leather, Metallic paint, E-diff, privacy glass, Meridian audio, surround cameras, wade sensor etc etc etc & was under $84k drive away, shop around.

We wont get into the colour debate... :p Each to his own.. ;)

The D4 is a brilliant piece of kit. You wont be sorry.

There are a few roof rack options, but unless you can get them thrown in, don't worry about the factory option roof rails. You can install an aftermarket copy later. Easy to do.

As for an air compressor, unless you are doing a fair bit of off roading, I would just get a decent one, and carry it in the back, rather than installing one. There are plenty of things you CAN add, depending how how extreme you want to go, and how deep your pockets are...

As said, shop around for the best price. I got mine from interstate, and the local dealer wasn't able to match the price.

PM me if you like.

Local dealer couldn't compete, got mine interstate as well,a few yrs ago now.
And i had bought 4 new vehicles from them previously.
Fantastic vehicle, you will not be disappointed.

PM Sneigy on here,he may be able to help:)

That extra warranty is worth a lot of cash, around $3.5K

Greatsouthernland
27th July 2014, 09:33 PM
That price is insanely cheap...well compared to what I paid for the SDV6 HSE MY14. If you're talking drive away price then you're 20k better off than me, there's not 25% more vehicle for you to spec it to one like mine, so I'm jealous and you're decision shouldn't be that hard.

Good luck with the decision, and if it's only a grand or so you'd save interstate, then shopping local would probably earn you more kudos with local mob if trading in or buying a RRS or vogue for the missus / mistress in the future

Thanks guys all really great help.
Happy to get an aftermarket roof rack later.
Have contacted a NSW dealer who has offered same car for 80k !
You guys are all very reassuring, can't wait to pull the trigger!
(was previously looking at x3/q5/gl merc/macan , disco does seem better!)
BTW, any catches with warranty? Can i get my services done anywhere? I have mates who are mechanics...

Kristan,

You should consider coming to our Adelaide Terrain Response seminar next month (12th August), and learn a bit about the vehicle. Details on my website.

Hey Nat, you did well which dealer?

I got mine through Townsville, but I also would have used Garreth at Lennock Canberra only he didn't have a car available otherwise he is awesome to deal with.

I think you can do better than $82k for a TdV6 and I'd haggle for $80k or less. The new vehicle market is very flat and VERY competitive at the moment. If you find any with a 2013 build plate they'll be giving them away by now. The two years extra warranty can be bought for $2600 if you go for the Allianz version which covers a bit more than the LR one, even though they're both Allianz policies. I just bought a 2014 build HSE SDV6 Nara Bronze with DAB for $99k OTR which was $9k off list, so that's the sort of discount you can get from dealers. Depending on where you are try and find a dealer with lots of floor stock as they'll be keen to move them.

Hi Mungus,

Do you know when it started? Bought mine a couple of months ago but wasn't told about this...maybe I was too early?

Cheers.

Main Event - 1/6/14 to 31/07/14. Says it is for demonstrator clearance, but I was informed it applied to my vehicle as it was delivered during the period.

G'Day Kristian,

I paid $82.5k last month for a white TDV6 with the following:
7 leather seats
Rear air
Meridian stereo
Reversing camera
Front distance control
Tow tongue
Window tint
Rubber mats
7 spoke alloy wheels
5yr extended warranty.

I maybe could have got a better deal, but I reckon you're at least in the ball park.

Being my 3rd Disco I am a bit biased, but it is an even more awesome vehicle that my much loved D3.

Rear air
Reverse camera
Mats
Body moulds
Tint

Don't get factory tint.

It's hard to match front windows with exact shade. What you save on factory tint allows you to do a full tint with latest darkest legal colour, they all match.

A friend have 2 shades and it looks odd.

Love the keyless entry/exit, is high on my list of nice to have.

Good advice Gerald,

Couldn't see the value in it myself, 2.5 times the price of your average blingacar franchise...and most times you have to pay LCT on it  well they said I did, so I said stuff that :D

Yeh but there's 2 extra gears :D and there's ... Um ... So the gearbox is pretty good... :( I guess...

Edit: weren't the LCAs strengthened ? Perhaps with some expensive super-alloy(I wish)?

Yes but while your sitting there twisting your little stumpy 8 speed knob round and round he is off going for it thrusting his big long 6 speed bar back and forth. ... ;)

To be fair they had run out of TDV6's when I bought mine so they reduced the price of the SDV6's so they had something to sell.

They were a bit sneaky about the 8 speeds though.

enjoy.

Have to say I disagree with you Gerald, we have the factory privacy glass and it looks schmick and IMO much classier than window film. I take your point on the front two windows though it's a valid point, it's a trade off I guess, just another one in life...lol.

Just take note that factory privacy tint doesn't provide any UV protection.

Yep Jonesy is spot on. Dealer gave me the same info, must admit with a couple of young children it turned me straight off the privacy glass for the UV reason. I spent a lot less on some great tint with 99% UV protection.

I've only had my Discovery 4 for 2 days and I really LOVE it, but am not yet happy with that knob! My hand keeps looking for a gearstick. What's the point - there is nothing there in the space created by getting rid of the shaft!

And I haven't worked out how to get it in neutral without starting the car?

Seems it needs to start for the knob to pop up. I used to be able to put the old one in N and push it round the shed, now I need to start it and open the roller door for the fumes :( someone must have worked it out?

Someone said something about press the start button no foot on brake and hold the up paddle for like 30 seconds and it pops up. But I can't remember if that's it haha.

This was mentioned in this thread. Last two entries by Gordon and Pete specifically. I tried it but it didn't work for me but maybe I didn't do it properly as I tried it a few days after reading about it. Must try again.:p

Cheers Letherm. Will try tomorrow.

Tried this earlier...Started it, selected N, turned off. The knob stayed up and I could PLAY, but eventually, not sure if more than 15 mins, it automatically went into park lock and the knob 'RETRACTED'...it wasn't cold, particularly
..maybe this would make a good voice command request to LR?

Something like - "Kit, I want to leave the gearbox in Neutral indefinitely as I have some strategic positioning to do in the shed and I may not have battery connected soon, SO WONT HAVE POWER TO DO IT THE DUMB NEW WAY, and I DONT LIKE THE FUMES IN THE CLOSED SHED AND I DONT WANT TO OPEN THE DOOR cos it's WINDY/RAINY/HOT/COLD/DOOR IS JAMMED/WIFE LEFT HOUSE WITH ONLY REMOTE ETC."
