VladTepes mentioned that i should write up a post on my drone so here it is.
At work a few years ago we were talking about how to do structural inspections in a faster and safer way. Thus cutting out the need for us to go into dangerous situations to find out what needs to be done. And it could also be a cheaper way of quoting jobs. A quick fly around with a quadcoptor and camera hanging under it. But it technology was not the best and very expensive.
Now days they these same devices are available as kits to the consumer and a lot better technology than they use to be. So a year ago now i decided to buy myself a DJI Phantom Quad and a new GoPro. And have some fun with it.

I am still learning how to use it and all the different options it opens up to me. This quad is only able to hold a GoPro underneath. Best for recording videos and extracting photos. My boss has also bought one of the newer model Phantoms. Not sure if we have used it on a work site just yet. As there are strange rules for using these as commercial rather than personal.
Here is 2 videos that i have taken from it. The first is camping up in Geehi in NSW. I had the wrong setting on the GoPro so not as smooth as i would like.

There are now a few versions of this Quad available. The Mk2 is the same motor and controls. Just a bigger battery for longer flying time and one of them has a built in camera for FPV (First Person View)while flying it.
It is really simple to fly. The quad takes a few minutes when you first turn it on to lock onto the GPS location. Then with the right settings on the controller you can hover on the spot. When filming though the camera can be shaken around quite a bit. So you will have to chop your footage up to get the most stable parts. Unless you have a gimbal mounted. Which is my next investment but they are expensive.
Here is a video i have grabbed from YouTube showing a DJI filming a 4wd event and the GoPro is mounted to a gimbal to make the footage stable.
