I'm thinking about putting a smallish tv on the wall in the bedroom.

I have one wooden stud in the vicinity aprrx 4cm wide. The wall plate for the bracket is 10cm wide and I don't have another stud happening for another 40cm's. Can I get away with using the holes on the l/h side of the bracket for screws straight into the wood and some kind of anchor bolts for the plasterboard on the right ? I'm not going to be hanging off it (hopefully).

Who has a stud every 10cm!?

All thoughts gratefully received.

I have a 50" plasma on the wall.
I mounted a timber board on the wall, screwing it into whatever studs were available and a few extra into the wall. That gave me a reasonable area to fix the bracket too.
The screen has stayed on the wall. Even through an earth quake (a small one).

Done a number of these. IMO gyprock anchors/wallmates/togglemates are not suitable to hang a 32" TV.
My advice is to mount a board on the wall attached to 2 joists (should be 400 centres) and then attach the wall mount bracket to the board
Cheers

I've got one same size - two screws into a stud vertical in line, one into an anchor. The bracket I have (Aldi) allows two vertically separated by about 25cm.

I've got a 55" tv on a wallmount above a fireplace, it's held in by 8 anchors - 4 are into the steel studs (not strong enough imo) and four are into the plasterboard using Ramset Togglemate anchors (rated for 20kg each). It's very firm (on a full motion mount).

The ramset anchors seem very effective - i've got a 10kg speaker hung from the ceiling on 8 of them and it's hanging out happily.
