LED DRL install

Hi guys

I am looking at installing LED day time running lights on the standard bumper of my 90. I am looking for some engineering place in or near Melbourne that would be able to cut the slots for the lights.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

For what purpose are you putting those in?

If it were me I would run my headlight control cable through a relay with a ignition cable pulling the coil in then just leave the headlights on.

Unless it's for other purposes...

Oh yup sorry can't help with that haha. I do know in NZ your day time running lights have to turn off when your headlights turn on. So might be a good idea to check your local laws. Or you could say they are spot lights hehe.

I am a strong believer that LED DRLs are a worthwhile safety feature so fitted some to my P38. I read various regulations so went the conservative route. I purchased a control unit from ebay for less than A$15 which automaticly switches the DRL`s on once the car is running, drops the illumination 25% when the side lights are on, switches them off when the headlights are on and simultaneously flashes the side corresponding with the direction indicators. There is also a 20 second delay before they switch off after the engine is stopped, this gives a bit of illumination when you leave the car. All bases covered.
In Europe it is a requirement the DRL`s go off with the headlights however new cars I see here in Perth seem to have both DRL`s and headlights on at the same time. With these cheap and easy to fit control boxes you can chose what functions you want.

Do you have a link to the control box?

I wired mine up with a simple switching relay, so they come on with the ignition and go off when I turn the headlights on

The DRLs you see on here with head lights are running at 25% output.
With lights off they are full intensity (way too bright for night time)
