Has anyone had the ARB front air locker fitted to there D3/D4 since they have been available. The rear is also available for D3's at this stage, some issue with the D4 has apparently put a hold/stop on the unit for D4s.
I would be interested in any feedback of users who have had it installed and used it in angry.
Unfortunately when I purchased my vehicle in early 2012, it was a vehicle they had in stock and the only option it didn't have that I wanted was the rear e-locker diff. I have also read, that the landrover rear e-diff isn't user selectable like the ARB air locker or Eaton E-locker.
I was quoted by my local ARB store, $2200 fitted including the ARB hi output on board air compressor.

Cheers,
Simon

Hey Simon,
So when were you quoted that price?
ARB did release the air locker for the D3/4 but then took them off the market due to issues that the local guy wasn't keen to talk about, that was late last year. Have they rereleased them?
regards
Brian

We're getting ready to build two rears and two fronts soon. The units were just shipped in, so it must be back "on" again.

You'll want new bearings to do the job.

Daniel Bongard is one of the senior R&D engineers at arb and is or was a member on here. Best bet is to contact him.

I spoke with ARB Osborne Park about 2 weeks ago, and they can fit the front unit to both D3s' and D4', but the rear is not available for the D4.

As far as the ARB web page goes, the ARB air locker is available for the Discovery 3 to 2009 and Discovery 4 2009 to present, no mention of whether it's front only.

Hi guys,

The Discovery 4 has a differently sized rear diff casing to that of the Discovery 3, and as such the D3 Air Locker will not fit. Initially, it was thought that the D3 locker would be compatible, but fitment confirmation proved otherwise.

Both front differentials are identical, so there are no issues here.

Hopefully that clarifies things a little.

Cheers
David

Apparently the D4 non-e-diff is almost the same as the D3 e-diff.

In a recent episode of TG-USA it appeared to me (from memory) that the LR4 had been fitted with F & R ARB lockers. Development version or something perhaps ? Or faulty recollection on my part ?

Anything is possible - prototype / marketing (was really an e-diff) / or retrofit of a D3 assembly.

The US is apparently driving D3/4 locker development

Rich put up some screen shots of a US video featuring a D4 with switches for ARB front & rear lockers. Link below:

The V8 D4 may be the same as the D3??

Expedition Portal who owned the D4 in the TGUSA episode has a write up on their car and talk about the ARB lockers here (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/87155-Overland-Journal-Project-Land-Rover-Discovery-4-(LR4)/page80)

The response from Scott Brady to a question about the lockers is as follows:

"Unfortunately, the experience is only half complete, as only the front locker has been installed. The rear was incompatible with 2010 and later LR4s, due to a bearing size change. I know that ARB is working on it, and I hope to have an update soon."

It would appear that although the car had two locker switches only the front locker was working.
The LR4 V8 available in the US does not come standard with the e-diff and it is only available in the HD package. Unlike the Australian V8 which is standard with an e-diff.:D

Well that makes everything that car did in the video even more impressive.

I am in the same situation as the OP and would like any updates to this issue.

I am also interested in how the TCS handles locked diffs. My guess is that as the wheels won't be independently spinning the TCS won't try and brake wheels etc so I would guess that they would be fine. Am I correct?

Is the there a future ARB locker for a D4 rear?

Sorry to necro this thread... has anyone worked out what the actual diff housing difference is? Or looked at putting a D3 diff housing with an ARB locker into a D4?

I'm also very curious if anyone has fitted the ARB Locker to a D4???Or any LSD or locker to either front or rear for that matter... esp regarding D3/RRS.

The rear e-diff can be retro-fitted although its not quite plug and play, with the need to makeup the harness between the control unit and the e-diff the messiest hurdle once an e-diff with the correct ratio has been found. Connecting the control unit to the HS can-bus at a convenient spot and supplying permanent and ignition power then updating the CCF with an appropriate diagnostic tool is not particularly arduous.
