Hey Guys
Just wondering what some of our 130 owners have in regards to Aux Fuel tanks
where are they and what brand did you buy

I have an LRA right sill tank from a "Bigcab" modified to fit my dual cab.
Was 70 litres now 63, give or take a few hundred ml.
It pumps into the main through a water separator and filter.
Mine is a td5 so switching between tanks was not really feasible without considerable modification.
Total capacity with the Long Ranger main is approx190l. Just can't see any point to having more.

I'm presuming that any long range tank needs a transfer pump...
has anyone removed the factory tank and just fitted a larger one?
best thing I loved about the aux tank on the 110 was it was just gravity fed so no fuss

I've got the 120L longranger on my old bus, not sure if they fit they newer models, but it's a replacement jobbie.

I have a pair of Mulgo sill tanks which, including the original tank, gives me a total of 210L of fuel.
I can't remember how much each tank holds but together I get an extra 135L with the drivers side tank holding slightly more then the passenger.
I looked into the Long Ranger tanks, which replace the original tank with a bigger 127L one in the Td5, but in reality this is only an increase of 42L over standard. paying over $1000 for two jerry cans worth of fuel storage seemed a bit silly to me.
I guess the sill tanks are some what exposed but the don't sit any lower then the chassis and are made pretty solidly. In normal touring situations they haven't been an issue at all.
I do wish I had given them an extra thick coat of paint before I fitted them as have lost quite a lot of paint just from mud, sand and rocks being thrown up by the front wheels bit it's only cosmetic and there are no dents.
I went for mulgo's Y filler to save drilling holes in the panel work. The tanks can be a little slow filling but if you make sure the front of the car is pointing down and preferably leaning a little away from the filling side (drivers) it fills fine.
Routing the breather lines took two goes for me. Rushed it a bit the first time and I had some air locks but I soon sorted that out.
All in the sill tanks have been really handy and give us a comfortable range of 1600k's. Once we managed 1778ks from a full tank. In reality we don't often need that much range but it gives us piece mind out in the sticks. For example, we didn't have to think twice before heading off across the Tanami desert and I imagine it will be handy when we cross the Simpson desert in a few weeks time. we can pass by the expensive places too.
I'm pretty happy with them.

Do you have the ability to isolate them in the event one gets punctured and loses all its diesel?

yeah there is a tap on the outlet of each tank. Both of these link up with a single transfer pump which goes to the main tank. The same hose works to keep the tanks balanced.
If one leaks you can turn the tap off isolating it from the system. If traveling through rough country it's a good idea to turn them both off. Saves a leak going unnoticed and I think the most likely place to get a leak is in the hoses going to the transfer pump.

I have been thinking of fabricating and fitting a sill tank on the left side for some time now. I have a LPG tank under the right side.
As my 130 is a TD5, to transfer the fuel to the main tank I thought a jet (venturi) pump might work. It would use the fuel flow cycling between the pump and filter to cause the suction in the Venturi to draw the fuel from the sill tank. A tap (manual or solenoid) between the sill tank and Venturi would be needed to start and stop the transfer.
As I'm now semi retired I have plent of time to play with the idea.
Got plenty of 3 mm plate left over from making the back on the truck to fabricate the tank as well :):)

Mine has an LRA sill tank Lou.
Nominally I think it's supposed to be 70l but I think I can only get between 65-67l in, depending on the lean of the car !
There should be some pics on one of Strangys threads I think ?
[edit] forgot to mention it uses a transfer pump that has never given an ounce of trouble in over ten years, and the level sender has never been able to work with the OE gauge !

I have 2 130's. The first has an 'abber tanks' plastic tank fitted underneath the rear seat box. You used to be able to buy a dolium version which has a 62lt capacity - you could get these from mulgo - but I cannot find any current links. My abber tank only has a usable capacity of about 40ltr, but that is probably more because of the chosen location of the drain point than the actual size of the tank - I'm sure you could do better if you planned it better than I did.
My other 130 came with a custom built steel tank which REPLACES the rear seat box, and has the seat mounts welded directly to it. It has a capacity of 90 odd ltrs.
Both use transfer pumps to take fuel back to the original fill point for the main tank.
Personally I like these solutions as I found the storage under the read seat a real pain to get to anyway - was a better use of the space in my view. I've read about a lot of people using it for water storage also.

Here's the link to my build thread, there are some pics of my tank mods, but probably most helpful for Dullbird are the drawings from Bush65 for tank build.
I really should get this moved to projects or members rides section....and update it.

One thing to keep in mind would be the "sloshing" of a less than full or more than empty tank in the cabin area. I will be going for mulgos sill tanks for $/Litre and because as a tourer they shouldn't interfere too much. Am considering doing something with the main tank, as I don't like the idea of the plastic tank, even less so with its close fitting guard - I can see abrasion becoming a possible issue.
Somebody makes one to fit across the front of the tub if you have a 130 hcpu...I forget capacity or manufacturer, sorry.

I have a Long Ranger 125Lt , It gives me at least 1000km , and is neat and simple . Depends how much range you need .

I have a long ranger 120L replacement tank in the back and 2 LRA sill tanks (driver 70L , Passenger 60L - both filling off 1 point on the drivers side) for a total of 250 L. (we have managed the entire Canning without refilling.......)
Because I have a 300TDI, I have been able to completely isolate my tanks (no transfer pumps...) I have a 3 position switch on the dash that operates a couple of pollak valves under the centre console to change between tanks. If the valves die, I can easily manually change the plumbing from one tank to the other.......
3 seperate fuel gauges in the mud pod on the dash keeps tabs on how full.

This is the only solution to my non-reading OE gauge when switched to the sub tank, use a VDO gauge that suits the sender !
Lou, do you want any photos to get an idea of how low, etc. the sill tank hangs ?

Mine has the Long Ranger 120 L or whatever it is, also a RV Poly 70L under tray tank (though I can't get more than 66L in there). It was enough to get from Kunawarritji to Leonora without using any of the 4 jerries I had on the back.

tub or tray?
I have an 1800x1800 alloy tray
sitting between the rails of the tray is an aluminium tank that holds 75L with the filler and breather between cab and tray.
It has its own supply to a second water separator.
The primary tank and axillary tank lines each run from their respective water separator to a "Pollack" valve then on to the engine
All up cost was about $500 for the tank (custom made in Cairns to my dimensions) and about $150 for the Pollack and plumbing ( I pilfered the fuel sender, separator and filler neck from a wrecked disco I had.)

Its tub guys...
reading some of the replies I think the fact I have a tub is going to be quite limiting as it sounds like you have more room to play with when you have a tray fitted..
Yeah any photos would be good....
