Info for a Series2a

Hi guys,

I know that i have a Series 2a, but the info from CalVIN seems to conflict with my rego documents. i would love to know the year of manufacture and if my engine and chassis are matching?

Engine number: 25342321K
Chassis number: 2532950D

Hi, those numbers are similar to my series 2a. Mine is a 1967 update 2a with single wiper motor, round spare wheel bonnet rubbers and 3 bolt bonnet hinges. key ignition switch, separate light switch on dash and three spoke steering wheel, (bakelite spokes, not chrome triple type spokes), negative earth electrical system, just off the top of my head. Mine is a suffix d and engine is a suffix k like yours. Hope this helps...

Sorry Lotz-A_Landies you are right. the FULL chassis number is 25329560D.

I also found this website which seems to suggest mine was built around February - March 1968.

Best date I can give you is about July/August 1969: 25328426D was delivered to NSW Prisons on 23/4/69
25329629G was delivered to NSW Police on 12/9/69
and between those two numbers there are hundreds of military spec Land Rovers. When they are doing mil. spec. Rovers they continue until the end of the batch. In this case there are lots of 6 cyl (347 prefix) but very few 4 cyl (253 prefix) being sold to the civilian market.

Suffix D seems to finish at the end of August 1969

You also have to understand that the suffix dates for Land Rovers built in the UK (using the Gaydon data sourced by Mark Rumsay Et. Al.) and the ones assembled in Australia can be offset by a couple of months. This is because of the time to ship, usually between 8 and 11 weeks and then the time for the changes to be included in assembly. Other times the changes could be almost simultaneous with the UK because it didn't require particular parts to be shipped and could be notified by "telex".

BTW: that site is incorrect on at least one point, Series IIB forward controls were being produced in South Africa through most of 1974.
