Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if a rear ABS sensor will fit into the front on a td5 defender? I understand the cables are longer but that shouldn't be a problem

That's my understanding, it is only the length of the cable that is different.

By obtaining rear sensor's from a wreck, the rear ones should have wiring that hasn't been flexing so it's unlikely the wires would be fractured, which is the main fault the front sensors develop, breaks in wire through their cable flexing with the suspension working.

It is possible with a bit of care to wrap the excess and cable tie the coil out of the way when using the rear sensor in a front position.

thanks, that's exactly what I needed, I also want to carry just the one spare!

Not a bad idea.

When the sensors go (e.g. due to cracked cables), is the only downside that you lose traction control and ABS, but everything else works per usual?

yes that's what I experienced,

Sensor had an internal break in the wire, managed to join and solder to get it going again
