Converting camper trailer hubs to D3 hubs?

Has any one changed their trailer hubs to run D3 wheels? I have 4 spare 18" rims and want to use them for my touring trailer. HQ hubs seem to be the right size but require drilling out to receive the right size stud. I have not found suitable studs yet, though D3 nuts are readily available. Would be grateful for any advice.

Commodore stud pattern is the same as D3 (120mm PCD) but has a smaller centre bore. You can get adapter rings to fix that and there a a few places that can supply the right studs (14x1.5 from memory). The issues you will have are that the large offset that the D3 rims have and the rim fouling suspension components and the 18" diameter rim requires a strong hub/axle assembly due to the extra transverse load verses a 15 or 16" rim.

You can't put D3 alloys on the standard trailer hubs, you can only fit steel rims or D2/P38a alloys.

The steel rims with go on the car but D2 and P38a alloys won't.

To fit D2/P38a alloys you will need to take 5mm off the ends of the D2 wheel nuts, but as they won't fit the car there's no point really.

You can buy steel rims for D3s, Dynamic do them, as do Performance Wheels, at least if you need to they will fit the car if you need to use the trailer spare, unfortunately you won't be able to fit the D3 alloys to the trailer, unless you can get the trailer hubs modified to suit.

There is only one person I know of that has managed this, I just can't remember who.

Reviving this thread because I came across this setup (see photos) on MySwag recently.
It very much looks like an Ultimate Xplor with the GOE Compomotive rims matching the D4.

I think the owner is IANDONMAC on here and DON MAC on MySwag but he's not very active on here.
I have copied the photos to my gallery just for reference, so I hope Ian won't be upset.

Anyway, I'd formed the impression that getting trailer hubs to suit D3/D4 rims was problematic but perhaps not so bad after all. Maybe Ultimate Campers modified the hubs in their factory.

Common wheels is something I'd like to specify when we eventually replace our camper trailer.
Does anyone else have a similar setup?

It appears that the Ultimate Xplor is very light. If it only takes light trailer hubs then Commodore pattern would do the trick.

Hmm, not so light as to not require brakes though.

I've had thoughts on using a factory D3/4 front bearing. Wouldn't be too hard to have a plate cut and welded to existing axles and bolt the hub/bearing assembly onto it. Could also use a stock front brake disc and possibly a stock calliper with electric/hydraulic brakes? My only concern at this point is it would put the hub flange further outwards away from the spring tower in order to get the correct track width.

I would be interested to know (for future reference) if it would be possible to utilise the factory D3/4 front bearing and then fit LR Rims to the Caravan/Camper Trailer.

When we purchased a Lifestyle Camper Trailer AT12 I looked into the whole LR hub issue on the Vehicle Components Single Axial Cruise Master Coil 2500kg. It could be done at the time.

I went with the standard 6 Stud Toyota/Nissan PCD as these are very popular. I then had a second wheel carrier installed on the caravan to carry a second LR Spare Wheel.

I have no complaints with the Cruise Master setup.
