If you have the skills, I would remove the hinge, then use a 1mm cutting disk to cut out the offending section. Have a new folded up and MIG it back in. If you can't get the hinges off, drill the screws out - new hinge nuts and screws are cheap from the UK.
Alternately, I thought I saw on one website a crowd that made up a hinge section as a rust repair panel, but can't remember which site.
I've got a heap of patch panels in the air ATM to do Cam's - there is a good selection available from many different suppliers.

Hi Bacicat ... would I need to replace the full door pillar or as you say, cut out and repair the section? ... it seems a rather big job to fit the full door.pillar ...

If that was mine and the only rust area, I'd buy the whole bit I linked, then just cut out the bit I needed from it.
Regardless of how you plan to repair it, your still going to need a MIG and grinder unless you plan on getting someone else to do it, in which case they would probably just fold something up.
I'm about a week away from starting the repairs to Cam's firewall - I'll post a detailed how it's done when I start. It will be a mix of bought patch panels and folded stuff on a bender, plenty of grinding and welding, then hopefully a bath in a galvanising tank when it's all done if I can find someone to do that.

Thanks bacicat You are a great help ... cant wait to see your repairs...I am almost complete stripping the lanrover and then the rebuild starts.
I think purchasing a mig welder would be the way to go as I must replace a few outriggers, remove rust from the rear crossmember and replace both front spring mounts -- the sections the bumper bolts onto and firewall repairs ... any mig welders you recommend ? ...

There is a thread running somewhere in tool time about MIG's. I don't own one, but I can borrow one if I'm working at home, or in the case of the firewall, I'll take it to my mates workshop and use his big bugger there.
All the chassis repairs I've done with my arc welder as it's think enough to get away with that.

Oxy-acetylene welding is also a viable proposition; I used to hire a set in the early days.
Or a MMAW (stick) welder running 1.6mm rods will work well, if you are used to position-welding.
If that is the only repair you have to do, it can be done in-situ; if there is more rust it may be worthwhile to remove the bulkhead and set it up on trestles.
I have repaired a couple and like Gav I used a MIG,
Good luck,
Cheers Charlie
