View Full Version : Puma 130 Steering Issue

When turning right from a standing start and shifting from first to second gear as I make the turn something appears to foul or grab the steering.
The wheels don't want to centre again exiting the turn and a bit of effort is required to break out of the arc if this makes sense. Could this be a power steering pump issue or linkages it doesn't happen every time but it does happen 3 out of 4 times.
Luckily first time it happened I was on a wide dirt road intersection and had time to react now I expect it every stopped right turn.
Any thoughts

I'd start by getting under the front of the car and looking up to see if anything is fouling the steering shaft or pitman arm?

+1 on what N plus one says, maybe something fouling.
I had the turbo hose (a well known issue with them) fouling on the steering shaft and preventing proper movement of the wheel.
I've had it replaced 4 times with different/new versions.

Mike.

Check the swivels. Some were not packed with enough grease in the early days

I had that same drama a month ago
It turned out the steering box was stuffed
I changed the ignition barrel
And the steering shaft

we had resistance (could also be explained as a notchy feeling) which came apparent when at around 10 and 1 on the wheel when turning the wheel on our 110 at slow maneuvering speeds only,,,I don't know the exact cause but I do know they changed the entire steering column for it.

Have you had the turbo hose recall done?
I had the same symptoms after the 'fix' was done.
The new bracket was fouling on the bolt of the steering shaft uni joint as the engine moved during higher revs.
Dealer obviously didn't do a test drive after working on the vehicle.:censored:

I have this same problem now. Feels like something catches when turning a corner at slow speed and then bringing the wheel back to center. Better get them to look at it.

Hose bracket seems non existant but this is the problem hose nearly worn through by knuckle bolt

So this is AFTER you've had the latest "new bracket" fitted?
Looking at the 2nd image, which shows the bracket fitted to the alternator, I can't see the part of the fix that is supposed to fit around the hose, attaching to the alternator bracket, pulling it away from the steering shaft?
