Well this is a nice surprise.
Just got our A.A.M.I. Insurance renewall for the 6x6 Camper today.
Guess what? Its morphed into a 2001 Toyota Landcruiser GXL (4x4) FZJ105R 4D Wagon 4SP Automatic 4x4 6 cylinder 4477cc.:o
In the last renewal it was a 2001 Land Rover 6x6 Camper V8 Chevy motor Auto.
How did they manage that?
My wife phoned to query and more or less got the answer, Whats the difference?
Further discussion got the answer that "We dont insure motorhomes or campers anyway"
Its been stated clearly on all the renewals for the last 5 years that its a camper so it turns out we have not been covered anyway.
Can we claim for all those premiums we have paid out on a worthless policy?

I would investigate that possibility.

However I suspect it will come down to - can you provide evidence you disclosed it was a camper when you took out the policy?

I'd take money that you wouldn't get any premiums back, they would simply use the previous paperwork to state it was covered.

If you are having trouble finding someone to insure your camper, try Ken Tame & Associates in Victoria.
None of my usual insurers (Shanons/RAA) would touch my camper. Ken Tame do all sorts of campers and motorhomes. The only catch - you have to join the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia ($60 p.a.).

Is there an insurance ombudsman in QLD? If so, they'd be able to advise you on the refund issue.

If you've always disclosed it was a camper and they stated it on their policy document when they took your money then I don't see how they could get out of taking liability. Sounds pretty clearcut.
A phone call to Consumer Affairs might be in order.

I'm with Dianna on this one. Regardless of what they told you, if the insurance paper work, which really is a contract, says camper on it you would have to have been covered.
So I doubt very much that you would get any money back.

I believe so.
Inital contact was a phone call to AAMI but as a follow up to get a paper trail I tried to email but it has to go through their website.
So far no reply.
It does say Camper on the previous renewall. Interesting that you all say it will be covered.
I think the problem is we had only third party property with them and now they wont do that without full comprehensive.
This might be their way of cancelling the policy we have.
We have shopped around a bit and it seems common now. No one seems to do a stand alone Third Party Property anymore.

We have no problem with third party property damage (I call it bomb insurance). My D1 has had it ever since I owned it.
However my son recently tried to get it on his P38 but was declined as they said that its value was too high. Their book value was 10K. I think this was because he also wanted fire and theft with it.
He gets bomb insurance with fire and theft on his EL Falcon.
When I first got my D1 I paid 16K and I got straight bomb without fire and theft.

This was for Third party with Fire and Theft to.$5000.
They got back to me today saying sorry for the mistake . It was a computer problem.
The emailed a new renewal.
This time the Land Cruiser has gone but I now have a 2011 Discovery 4 door 5 litre V8.
Where did that come from?
Funny its got the same rego number and Vin as the 6X6 Camper:(
This time I scanned this years policy and sent it back saying this is what I have just copy it to the Renewal.
Wonder what they will do now.

Could be they should be practicing bun fights.
I don't think I would give them ANY of my hard earned.
Hate to think what would happen if you ever had to make a claim

Who do you use?
Just in case I dip out with the renewal as they have not replied yet.
PM me if you like.
Thanks.

I use APIA. It happened many years ago by default. I was with some one else, can't remember who, when they were taken over by APIA.

Update. I had to phone them again. As they dont have 6x6 Land Rover models in their data base they cant match it so said they cant insure it beyond the current expiry date.
This is AAMI, supposed to be a big company.
I said there are hundreds of 6x6 Landies around now ex Army etc but no go. Not in the data base we cant insure it.
What are all you other 6x6 owners doing for insurance?

Don't Shannons specialize in unusual vehicles? Might be worth a call.

Yes, We have the Tickford and Royal Review Insured with them.
However all the other outfits we tried wont touch us and refer us to CIL.
They specialise in Campers and Motorhomes but wont do stand alone TP so we are going for Comprehensive. This is probably a good thing anyway.
They seem happy to do it but need some photos.
