I can't believe the rubbish Valeo kit I only put in last year is slipping already.
I guess I'm up for another one in the next few months.

Just wondering if anyone has installed an Xtremeclutch kit.
The write ups appear to be ok but most of it is from the suppliers.

They are Australian made from what I can see.
I drive a TD5 defender 2005 model.
I think I'm going to go a heavy duty one this time with a solid flywheel.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Cheers
Mick

That's a real pain in the ass.

I just got a standard clutch from eBay UK when mine went (after years of abuse) it was cheap and I towed 3 ton of car and trailer with it regularly and never had a problem.

The standard clutch in the Puma seems good to

I replaced mine recently as it had started to slip. On pulling it all apart, I found the clutch to be fine in terms of thickness, but oily due to the rear main seal weeping. If yours turns out to be a similar story, leave the gasket out when replacing the rear main seal. It's often the gasket that fails and not the seal itself. That was the case with mine. Failed gasket.

Have you considered putting in a 130 clutch?
I believe that they are stronger than the 110 ones.

When the original clutch was replaced did you do the flywheel at the same time?

Are you sure it's the clutch and not the M/C?
A slight adjustment could save you a lot of grief if it is.

Cheers,
Paul.

Yeah That's my next move. Going to have Master Cylinder adjusted. Hopefully fixes problem. I had the rear main seel changed when clutch was done.

Is adjusting M/C easy or should I take to mechanics?

Pretty easy,
Take the plate of the top from inside the engine bay and you can see the pushrod and trunnion.
The pushrod has a nylock at the end and two locking nuts on the inside of the trunnion. Adjusting either way give you pedal height up or down but the important thing is that there is no pressure on the pushrod when the pedal is at rest.
Feel the pushrod with your fingers it should feel loose with a bit of sideways play. If it is stiff you will need to adjust the nuts.
Freeplay is set with the two locking nuts.
The trunnion should be floating between the nylock and the other two.
Do not do the nuts up hard against the trunnion.
A couple of mm freeplay is enough.

It may take a bit of trial and error but a bloody good thing to learn especially in a Defender.
And that freeplay is critical;).

Mine is an 02 defender still with original clutch.

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks for the info.
I'll give it a try. Can't hurt.

I only know Extreme Clutches from my sports car days, but they were great value for money clutches. I used to use an Extreme triple plate on my R34GTR and launched it many times with 420Kw at the wheels. With a lightened flywheel they were great. Never heard of them being used in 4wd application.

That is if we are talking about the same clutch company here.

Cheers.

hi noogie did you replace the duel mass fly wheel? if you have excessive play in the fly wheel this can result in slippage but it will make a racked before this should happen.
p.s. most solid kit are a good way to get your gear box rebuilt.

We talk about the Land Rover wave , and we talk about the smile . There's nothing quite like the pleasure a Land Rover driver gets than towing a Toyota !

No I put a dual mass flywgeel in because for that reason.
Im hoping it's just an adjustment as I haven't done mre than 15000ks on this kit.
I changed everything needed when I had it done too.
