My 2012 110 is going in for it's 3rd front Left & Right Hub seal leak in under 12 months. I'm getting a little frustrated as I would think by now there is obviously something more going on then the seals. Today they said the wrong grease has been used and they will replace the seals and repack both sides again. On top of this my transfer case needed attention which saw the car in their workshop for 2 weeks and my roof needing respray and repair for another 2 weeks.
The dealership have been great to deal with, but my frustration at the car is being tested, I even looked at a Disco 4 while I was there
The Love/Hate relationship is beggining to form. Why could this possibly keep happening??
Cheers.

Ah the memories of owning a Defender whilst under warranty.... (ah just remembered I still have one under warranty...) Yes it's frustrating - but don't worry things will settle down and a sense of peace will be felt once the warranty is gone and you no longer have to deal with dealers....
One things I've found is that dealers and some mechanics in general treat the symptoms and not the cause. I agree with you the hub seals leaking repeatedly should point to something - On my older Land Rovers with oil filled hubs that usually means a bearing has excessive play. Or alternatively the breather hose/nipple is blocked causing pressure build up in the axle. Or possibly but less likely the running surface of the seal is scratched or damaged. Without an actual cause like that - I've found those hub seals to be reliable.
I've had a breather come loose up in the engine bay and melt itself closed, was surprisingly difficult to find.
I'd be really surprised if it's the wrong grease - those same seals work with oil on older rovers, so if it leaks with grease (which is actually not the heavy grease you may be thinking of, but instead is a nasty black treacly grease) then something else is wrong.
If you get past the wear in on a LT230, they can do amazing numbers of kilometres - so again don't worry too much about it, and hope that it's fixed properly now. (Either way if some years down the track it does fail again - it's not hugely expensive to replace)

They leak because they don't have the correct pre-load,if it's been done three times they are obviously just fitting new seals with the same amount of shim so they leak again. The Transfer leak is easily fixed by replacing the seal and using permatex on the two mating surfaces of the gearbox and T/C. Wheel bearing shims I'd assume. Apparently that's how the new Defenders are; shimmed rather than the nut and locking washer.
