Hi all,

My 110 300tdi has a speedo thats way out. After buying it and driving it home I noticed everybody flying past me. I hooked up the gps and found that the speedo reads 110 and the gps says 94.
After plenty of searching its a common problem and many say run 33's and it should be close to spot on. So ive fitted 285 75 km2's and now the speedo says 110 and the gps says 103-104. This is closer to acceptable.
Now I get a puddle of oil about the size of a 50c piece on the ground for every 50 or so kms I drive. Its leaking from in between the transfer and gearbox. There is also a bit of backlash.
so my thoughts are replace the transfer with a reco one out of a disco and fit the 265 75 bighorns I have from my disco 2 or reco my existing 1.4 transfer and leave the 285 75 km2 on the car.
majority of my driving is hwy between gold coast and Byron bay.
I already owned the km2's all I bought was 16x8 dynamic wheels which I can put my 265's on so I wont be out of pocket swapping the tyres over.
Please give me your experience between 285s and standard 1.4 ratio as compared to 265s and disco 1.2 ratio.
Many thanks.
Michael.

Every Land Rover I have had anything to do with has the speedo drive on the output shaft, so the ratio of the transfer case has nothing to do with the speed registered on the speedo.

The speed of the speedo is only inflenced by the diff ratio and the tyre size.

For the pedants ,if you have ABS like D2 onwards , the speed is taken from the wheel sensors so even the diff ratio becomes irrelevant.
