I have a HP Compaq pc running Office Home.
Been good and trouble free since new.
But a few days ago I saw that the time was wrong and the date was 2009.
Crikey.
I reset it and all good but since then every morning when I turn it on about 9-30 am it shows the time as around 4-15 am ?
I reset it and all is good even tho I might turn the thing off and on a couple of times during the day.
Next morning tho its buggered up again.
Any ideas ?

Probably the battery on the motherboard is dead or nearly so.

Jeez, I had no idea it had a battery.
Can they be replaced ?
In all the years of pc ownership I have never had this problem before.

Olbod,
Maybe you're caught in your own version of "Groundhog Day"!
Either that or your computer is trying to tell you that the only way to avoid getting even older is to stop time!
Er, failing that it probably IS the mother board battery.
To get to it, you'll need to undo a few screws and remove the cover from your AT case (I presume that's what you have) and you'll find a little button battery somewhere on the large circuit board.
Just replace that and hopefully you'll be back in synch with the rest of us.

It can be replaced, but how easily depends on the motherboard - some are soldered in.

if it is a desktop pc and it defaults to 2009 then it should just have a 2032 button style lithium battery
easy to replace...
