Fuel additives...

Hi friends, I have a curiosity that I want to meet.
Here in Italy I often hear about people who often adds to the tankful of fuel

kerosene (500ml)
white spirit (300ml)
acetone (10ml)
2t oil (300ml)

This because, in their opinion, are the main components of commercial additives.
I would like to know if it is just a trend of here or it has truly benefits on cleaning.
In what quantity?

Gday, Kero has a lower flashpoint so burns better but 20L per tank would be better.
2 Stroke oil increases lubrication now that the sulphur levels in diesel have been reduced. I use 200:1.

The only additive I would use would be for long term storage in a diesel vehicle, GT 3 months.

Paul, sulphur in the form it is in high sulphur diesel isn't a lubricant !

The process that removes the sulphur also removes some of the aromatic compounds that give the fuel its lubricity.

Current fuel lubricity is at least the same as it was back in the 500ppm sulphur days, lubricant is added post refining.

Personally I wouldn't use a home brew, and I've seen adverse reactions using of the shelf cleaners from the major oil companies too. (Increased wear metals in used oil analysis)

If a fuel additive from BP increased the lead, tin and copper readings in a couple of oil samples what potential harm could come from a home brew ?

FWIW Redlines diesel additives don't adversely affect the engine oil in my testing and a very clever oil analyst told me it's one of the best diesel additives you can buy.

Rick,I was driving between Kalgoorlie and Perth for 12 months and ran Penrite 2 stroke in my fuel and I think the Tdi ran quieter,it could have been that I was getting deafer but it didn't seem to worry it. Pat
