130 and Gold Coast M1

Anyone on here regularly drive their 130 between Brisbane and Gold Coast? Was driving on the concrete section and it wasn’t very pleasant in the 130. Seems like the pitch of the concrete sections is the same as the wheel base and was making the car shake about. It would build up to the point where the gear sticks were shaking back and forth in time with the grooves.

ONly time my car has felt like that was when I left the park brake on whilst driving. My car is a 110.

Not saying that was your problem but it was the first thing that came to mind and I wondered what the hell was the go with the road as well.

G'day, I went down that way a few mths. ago towing a tandem with my 300tdi 130 xtra cab & holy hell I thought the old girl might snap in two! I stopped to check & found the tow ball a bit loose, after tightening that the rattle reduced but I still slowed down to about 80 K. On the return with a car on board it was still like a fast low roller coaster. Not looking forward too it again.

Ranga had issues with his 130......although he has full air bag set up on the rear, it was his test drive after the conversion. he changed his shock setting and the return trip was better I believe

Not just 130 but my 110 does it. Its a horrible bit of road, especially at the ready creek section. I wish they would cover it with hot mix just for safety when its raining.

Yes we travel that road very regularly, and often with a loaded car trailer attached. The concrete road does make the 130 pitch a bit, but not what you describe. Have you checked you shock absorbers lately? When ours needed replacing the ride was very bumpy :angel:

Yeah could be the shocks. I've only had it for two months but I was impressed with the ride on all other sorts or roads.

Doesn't seem to be a pitching or side to side motion though - its more bouncing. Its just like its the resonant frequency and it just builds up over a few minutes. When you go over the bitumen bridges it stops and then build up again on the concrete.

I get the same rollercoaster ride in a Kenworth with a fridge van on the back.:D

Tyres maybe? At a certain speed my D4, running geolanders, will drum and hum something fierce on the M1. Never had the issue when shod with Scorpions.

I put it down to the lateral cuts they put in the concrete surface.

I get the same on that section of road in the 90.. and we had the same with the Ford 250 we used to have.. something to do with the natural harmonic balance of the car.. there is a section of road down near Palm Beach that seems to affect anything pulling a caravan (we could just about guarantee that if we sold a van and they were heading south that we get a call about there lol)..

The good news is that the tenders have been accepted to change the road from concrete to tar seal... the bad news is that means lots more road works..

Its definately the ripples in the road. For 9 years I have been driving from Surfers Paradise to brissy every day. I have changed my new cars every year as I worked as a service manager for a dealership.
I have owned a couple of dual cab utes that bounced the entire length of the concrete hwy. The worst one I had was a d40 Navara. Brand new and bouced that bad that I put the kids boogie board on the back seat with a shoe on top and video the board bouncing completely off the seat at every ripple. It only took about 20 seconds until the board bounced off the seat onto the floor. The bouncing was that bad that whilst trying to talk you sounded like you were getting karate chopped in the throat every second.
Unfortunately Nissan didnt care so I replaced the standard suspension and it made it liveable but definately not perfect.
I also had a ss ute which did it too but not bad enough to change the suspension.
every car ive owned with coil overs such as wrx and gtr did the same thing.
Maybe change the springs and shocks if its bad.

It's pretty ordinary in my 110 as well but the worst section is when you go from Reedy Creek Road to the M1. Bloody disgusting piece of concrete.
