What brand's good? Best value, longest life? Lead acid, gel, spiral wound?
It's for a V70 Volvo.

Gel mat or spiral wound, basically the same elements, just put together different. Both are long life compared to lead acid. Was told that I should get at least ten years out of my optima battery. Also for the same size as a lead acid they have a greater capacity. But of course they also cost a bit more. My optima was double in price to a lead acid battery.

The supercharge gold calcium battery in my disco is 7 years old and apart from a few times this cold winter that i thought it was dying, it just keeps on going.

Have a chat to Michael at T4, he is a member. Has good info about batteries and can sell you one if that's what you need. 0428 311 533. I got an Optima Blue Top which I am very happy with.

Go the optima blue prob one of the better bateries around ran them in my old 4by much better than lead acid that tend to shake them selfs apart on corrugated roads plus the blue is the same as the yellow top but has the extra ring terminals that make it easier to run extra accessories and cost the same as the yellow... I get mine from goodchild enterprise much cheaper than any other place I've found.

I have just bought a Cat 950cca cranking battery for my FFR.
I have a few mates in mines machinery maintenance and they swear by the Cat battery. Takes the punishment of mining they say.
Goog price to. $250 incl.

G'Day V8 Ian,
When you refer to a "cranking battery" do you mean the main battery in a motor vehicle that is used to start the motor via the ignition and starter motor?
I know batteries specify their cold cranking abilities, I have not heard of a battery mentioned directly as a "cranking battery" before.
Then again I have not been getting out much lately either
Kind Regards

I use Delcor calcium batteries - very good units and a good price. I get them for cost as my mates shop sells them, so even better.
