But more importantly

Teams to compete in the 2014 season are:
• Brisbane City (QRU/Reds)
• Queensland Country (QRU/Reds)
• North Harbour Rays (Manly, Warringah, Gordon and Norths)
• Sydney Stars (Sydney University and Balmain)
• Greater Sydney Rams (West Harbour, Penrith, Parramatta, Eastwood and Southern Districts)
• NSW Country (in partnership with Randwick and Easts)
• University of Canberra Vikings (ACT Rugby/Brumbies, University of Canberra and Tuggeranong Vikings)

Pity, I don't have Foxtel, so that's no help to me. I was hoping the ABC might televise some matches, as they have on occasion with the NSW/QLD club competitions over the years.

With the exception of Wallabies test matches, it's almost impossible to see any Rugby on free to air TV these days. :(

Cheers

Yeah, the ABC used to be good , and the ARU are missing a large audience by not having free to air. The only reason I got Fox was the super rugby, SWMBO watches other girly stuff. Bob

Well, just checked the program , looks like only Thursday on Fox 2. Perhaps the ABC may have it on radio. Anyway, the complete guide to the NRC. Bob
[ looks like they are having the ITM from NZ, followed by the NRC, then Rugby central, all on Thursday nights]

I'm sure Foxtel show the ITM cup through the weekend, so surely they must have the NRC covered.

No what? No NRC? That would suck, but maybe Foxtel are gun-shy after the last local effort, cause I can't think of any other reason for the ARU not to have sewn this up.

You're right, mate, seems a missed opportunity, probably cost too much for the TV broadcast. My old mate, who is a life member of Cairns Rugby club [ he set it up] and played a couple of games for the REDS, years ago, when the no1 hooker wasn't available, [ or 2&3 for that matter] :) seems to think the ARU want bums on seats, that way they make money. Involving the Womens Rugby as curtain raisers is an attempt to appeal to a larger audience, so he says. Playing in Country centres is a good move. Can only be positive . Can't go to Ballymore tonight, but will go with old mate at some stage. Bob

Went searching & found this, still can't find where it would be free, Bob

The tournament will be run by the Australian Rugby Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Rugby_Union) (ARU) with the sponsorship of Foxtel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxtel) and Fox Sports (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Sports_(Australia)), and at least one match per round will be broadcast live on Fox Sports.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rugby_Championship#cite_note-roar-nrc-pt3-2014-4) Arrangements for the live streaming of other games, either through the Fox Sports website or a dedicated NRC site, are being considered. The ARU's Andrew Fagan confirmed that Fox have the digital rights as part of their NRC broadcast rights deal,[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rugby_Championship#cite_note-roar-nrc-pt3-2014-4) but that these streamed games will be available for free:

Whichever [streaming] option we go with, it will be free access,” Fagan said. “The core objective of this competition is to provide high level rugby in a very accessible way, whether that’s the ticket prices for the matches themselves, or for streaming for those who don’t have Fox Sports.
—Andrew Fagan, ARU General Manager, National Teams and Rugby Operation, 2014.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rugby_Championship#cite_note-roar-nrc-pt3-2014-4)
