I am leaning towards congratulations rather than commiserations at present that after a couple of failed attempts I finally have a P38 in the Stable. A 4.6HSE Vogue 2002 to be exact with 195km on the clock and everything working (except cruise control see below).

I picked it up to today meeting the guy at the local stealer where he just forked out $1k for a new front door lock!! Great timing for me. Paid $8700.

Couple of mystery items in the photo below. Prize is I will upload more photos after a full cut and polish etc tomorrow. Next week I am getting the headlining replaced - not cheap $700ish but these 2 things will make the car look new. The light guards, grill and some an area on a door handle have faded... I might remove these where I can and repaint with bumper prime - will this work well??

Also there is a photo showing the cruise control actuator which isn't going and I see beneath the tube that is connected there looks like a tube is missing?

Finally...how on earth do you reconnect the gas strut on the glove box??

Many thanks to members for their words of encouragement to see me through to ownership.

It looks very nice. Congratulations - great price. Hope it serves you well.

The light guards can be removed and reconditioned. They are attached to the wings using rivnuts - meaning the wings had to be drilled to install the rivnut. I've used Protectant 303 in the past to good effect. I ended up painting my grill (the original colour isn't black though).

Before spending the $700, have you checked out the DIY instructions available on this forum and others? Its not too tough a job. Just time consuming.

Not sure what the tee handle is for. The probe looks like a temp sender - but not sure really.

Thank you. I figured the mystery photo the long thin key is for closing the sunroof.

Rivnuts - is there no escape from them?!

I just don't have the time and will somehow add grease or oil to the headlining if I go anywhere near it!

By the way...how do you turn off the heater entirely??

By the way...how do you turn off the heater entirely??

I am not sure you can, there was a long discussion about the Auto mode here recently and most people just leave it on Auto with the temperature set to where they want

The system then uses heat or air-con as needed to maintain cabin temperature.

There is no heater tap, it is a continual flow system

Wow that seems plain odd... every car I have you can turn the heater off. It is not a big deal, but I am spending time sitting in it (cheaper than driving!) and don't want to be flattening the battery while listening to the radio.

Turn the auto dial anti-clockwise all the way. The coolant is always running through the heat exchanger inside the dash, but that's the only way of stopping the air distribution.

Did you get an owners manual with the car. Well worth a read. Surprisingly informative. I say this, because I've just read it properly after 5 or more years of P38 ownership. Typical guy - never reads the instructions (according to SWMBO).

That level of common sense is dangerous. Yes I will go and read the owners manual that came with it. Never crossed my mind.

Correct, the T handle is for the sunroof. Remove the interior light & you can operate (close) the roof manually if needed.

There's no hose missing in that picture. I think it's an exhaust for the cruise when it's deactivated.

I notice on your dash the switch with the picture of a highway (to the left of the red hazard switch) is not activated. That is the switch to turn the cruise control on/off. Have you tried it with the switch activated?

Congratulations on the pickup. With regards to the faded grill plastics there is a method out there to bring back the shine using a heatgun. I'm not 100% sure if the P38 grill is a type of plastic that will respond but it may be worth a try.

I didn't see these answered yet. The glove box strut just drill trough it and use longer screws and a couple nuts with washers. The cruise pump motor is not supposed to have a hose there. I believe thats the air inlet or outlet for the pump.

Looks very nice, I have been looking for a while myself, and know how difficult it is to choose one, as they all seem to have problems, it choosing the one with the easiest or least problems.
It looks like a very and honest car which has had an owner with pride.
I hope it is good for you.

I drover it home on a 14 hour trip and it went perfect returning an impressive 12.5L/100km. The rear amp just died but got the XK340 amp off ebay to replace. It drops down nicely but if you floor it then she shakes and feels like your driving on a rumble line. Ordered halo plugs so hoping that will smooth her out.

The motor runs just fine on the original style plugs ...

but if you floor it then she shakes and feels like your driving on a rumble line. .

Think along the lines of Engine mounts and Gearbox mount ... They get old and either loose height and flex tooo much, or just crack

+ .... and have a look at the Doughnuts (propshafts).... 1 small crack = replace.

Nice car BTW

Cheers
Mike
