The 3.2V6 is a nice motor, silky smooth but with plenty of grunt.
My old mans CLK320 is deceptively quick for such a solid vehicle.

Mr Marsh is the man to ask, although he prefers his Mercs with chrome bumpers.

Same here. Gets a bit pricy when changing plugs and leads though - it's a twin spark engine, so there's twelve of the buggers.

A mate has a late 80s,early 90s AMG tudor.Get one of them, its a beast.I saw 200kmh from the passenger chair,it got there real quick and had plenty more to go.He only slowed down as we came across a prang,NEVER ventured inside the thing again:eek::eek::eek::eek:.I should have known better,I once got into a Charger with the full 6 pack motor he owned, vowed then never to get in a car with him again:(:(:(:(:(

Sold our "purchased new" 6.2L 500HP V8 C63 this year, main reason, impossible to REALLY enjoy the true performance of this car in Aus.
But, a really magic car, the engineering of which, was way beyond the ridiculous road rules in Aus.

The S class is more luxuriously appointed than the E class.
When new, these cars were expensive. Remember that the price of parts and servicing are based on the original price. Parts and servicing are more expensive than a Commodore. When the gremlins get in, you might as well say "Goodbye car."
Having said that, the Mercedes Benz is a mighty fine machine. I'm on the lookout for an excellent example of a W126. The best Mercedes ever made.

Oh, yes, and following on from what Ian said, The chrome bumper Mercs become classics and the plastic bumper Mercs become a weathered mass of electrical problems.

Good comparison but, with Mercs, it's orders of magnitude greater.

We call hin Crash, due to his habit of writing cars off.He must have done some very good deeds in his life as he isnt ready to meet his maker or the bloke down stairs yet.I know of 4 valiants,2 holdens and a ford he wrote off in spectacular fasion plus a brand new Moto Guzzi bike(a roo hugged him at high speed) and he still is a healthy fit person.Absolute nutter but thats another story:):):):):):):):):)

haha Andy.

I had a ex GF out your way a few years back. She thought that she was doing well doing the tone in her falcon.:D I just let her go then lined her up. went passed her like she was standing still.:twisted:Oh I wasn't in a landy then:D

I took my bike back to BMW and told them that there was something wrong with it! they asked why? I told them that the speedo needle did not go all the way round! They looked at me and said No, of course not every BMW sold is speed limited to 155mph.

I said oh so I did pretty well then. I had to sell that bike before I got caught:angel: but I do miss that feeling:p

The S class is the flagship range so my advice would be go for that model.

Can't say I have had one myself but my parents are country types who have bought their S models and kept them for virtually ever with no major issues.

In fact last year the just bought their replacement S350 for their 1993 S300. In the end they kept the old one as it is worth almost nothing and has been virtually problem free other than maintenance.

The old one is still used daily and we all joke it will more than likely will be their oldest grandson's first car in 6 yrs!

When you say that the w126 is the best one what motor are you looking at?

One of my mates used to have a 450 merc but I got no idea what model it was. always sounded nice when he pulled up.

With any car, it depends how it's been looked after.
As members of the Mercedes Benz Owners Club, we've been amazed with some of the earlier, and even some of the later models, that have done over 500,000ks & more, with no major dramas.

I'm told the M116 was the best of the V8's. The M116 came in 3.6l & 4.2l. The M117 came in 5.0l & 5.6l capacities.
My W109 has a 3.5l M116.

What a beautiful car:

Yep, Diesel finnies are still being used as taxis in the middle east today.
I don't think in fifty years time you'll be seeing fifty year old taxis.

When you talk about taxis i remember very well the MB 180D and the next model 190D back home.
The 180D have a stronger body than the new shape 190D but both engines were indestructible.
Another great diesel engine was in the Peugeot 403 but the body was not as good as the one in the MB.The later 404 have a better body.

Now back to the MB, how hard is to get parts including body parts for the early 1990's models?
Some time is the rubber seals in doors and other parts of the body that need replacement and in some cars are hard to get.

Thank you all for the information.
