View Full Version : Question on brake warning light

Evening all, yesterday I had several flashes from the dash, and the check brake pads came up on the dash.
Today the warning info light is on and stays on.

History - I changed the rear pads 20,000 klms ago without changing the sensor, no problems all well, the dealer changed the fronts last service 10,000 ago, and informed me that the rear sensor the one I changed had come out and was just hanging there, they did not replace it at the time.
I tied the sensor to the brake pipe and left it not installed.
Have just towed the van from Cairns to Bathurst, no problems, yesterday quick trip to Sydney and back, got several flashes on the dash but not on long enough to see what it was, the little "I" came on and when viewed told me to check the pads.
Today the main info warning light on the dash is on continuously, I assumed that the rear sensor had come loose again -it was never connected just tied off - it has and was swinging in the breeze I have taped it up and tied it off but all the warnings are still on.
Pulled the front wheels off this evening pads are As good as new, sensor looks fine and is in place. Rear pads are O.K. But have not had the sensor connected for the last 20,000 klms so it should not be them triggering the alarm.
On the run to Orange today the cruise control did not seem to be as smooth as normal otherwise everything is fine just a light on on the dash.
Can I reset the warning ? assuming that the rear sensor wire was swinging and made contact now and then and triggered the warning.

Any suggestions I won't be in Sydney for another 3 weeks.

Thanks.

DD

P.S. I have done a search, found lots but not what I need to know .

DD,

I think I'm correct, if you check the sensor it has probably opened up across the end terminals. The brake sensors work on having the circuit closed for normal readings, and if the circuit is broken they will read as a fault. I don't believe you can expect to clear anything until you replace the sensor. An alternative would be to cut the sensor wire and join the two wires together to fool the circuit into thinking all is as it should be. That will pretty much disable the wear sensor though.

I'd go and get the sensors. The rear is available as a Bosch spare part. Should be BS0025. Retail about $40.00.

Thanks did the job !
Had a good look at the rear that was hanging free and there was a crack in the plastic end part, so cut it off soldered the wires together and then put a crimp on, and all is well again.
Will get me home till I can get new sensors, will replace both after this.

O/T. You still in Goulburn Terry ?

We are minding a farm just out of Bathurst for a month, leave the end of next week but doubt if we will get that far down.
God knows how you lot live in this cold country - bit of a change after 5 years in Cairns !
