View Full Version : So did we or didnt we

Gday All,

So the question is ... Did we go to and walk on the moon ?

I remember at high school we watched a movie called "Capricorn 1" and it was about a fake moon landing.

I would like to think we did, but always wonder with so many decades having past why haven't we gone back ?

Anyway , just for a topic of a different kind, what do you think.

Did we OR didn't we.

Cheers Ean

The amount of people involved, who would have had to been in on the lie would be massive. I think keeping that many people quiet for this long would have been more of a challenge then landing on the moon.

Yeh but wasn't the USA in a race to beat the Russians, maybe the amount of people who were in on the hoax may have been very minimal, Hollywood at its best.

Just a thought of course.

Before anyone trots out some of the "evidence" put forward by the conspiracy theorists, I hope they read these sites and dozens of others that thoroughly debunk the claim that the landing was faked.

It was no hoax. the Yanks did reach the moon, several times actually.:) What was amazing was the technology of the time was nothing like we have now.:)

It was indeed an exciting time, when difficulties were overcome (three men died in Apollo 1) and the Yanks set out and achieved it. Yes, there was a race on with the Russians who had a Lunar lander designed, built and ready to go.

The Yanks are now designing a rocket that is even bigger than the Saturn 5 which was used to send men to the moon. It's called the SLS ( Space Launch System) which will lift payloads for deep space missions. One planned mission is in 2022 to send a spacecraft called the "Clipper" to Europa ( a satellite of Jupiter) to search for life.:)

There has been many attempts to portray the lunar landings as a hoax but these attempts have been discredited many times. Over the years there have been many TV programs discussing the lunar landings and hoaxes.:)

My 02c worth, anyway.

ps. I think P38arover had something to do with an Australian antennae system that received man's first messages from the moon.

nah Ian, they had an astronaut on the 7.30 report and he said he remembered as a kid seeing the moon landing on TV and went outside and looked at the moon to see if he could see them...as a kid would.
It reminded me of the movie and hence the thread, no intent on starting any form of argumentive thread. Hopefully it wont fall into a political debate .

I believe "we" did if for no other reason than the number of people involved in the whole shebang over the last 45 odd years, no-one has let the secret slip.
As stated, it would have been easier to actually go to the moon than keep that many yanks quiet for this long :D

Well not sure what you mean by"we". The Americans alleged they did and I would like to think they did, but what disturbs me is that the flag in all pictures is waving, like in wind in an environment that has no atmosphere. So did they actually make the moon or was it in fact a Capricorn 1??

Capricorn 1 was about a Mars landing.

Oh, did they land on the moon, of course they did.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the flag had a frame on it to hold it outspread. Once it got jammed into the ground the vibrations up the lightweight pole made the flag look like it was waving. There are plenty of conspiracy debunking websites out there. The NASA one I recall was pretty good.

Ah but to hijack this thread and sort of keep it in the same space (a dad joke) See where the space station crew where out side giving it a buff and polish and I kid you not found real bugs on the windscreen. Ok maybe not the windsceen but on the station they where. Bacteria and a sort of plankton has started to grow. Now is that true? Have they found life in space? Or is it the same mob who faked the moon landing back in business? :)

ps. I think P38arover had something to do with an Australian antennae system that received man's first messages from the moon.

I did, in a way as I have previously noted, the most recently being back in July when the 45th Anniversary of the landing occurred.

A couple of years later, my wife worked at the NASA Tracking Station in Carnarvon taking photos of the sun to look for solar flares which might preclude ExtraVehicular Activity by astronauts.

Didn't someone on this forum report landrover tracks and oil puddles on the moon? :o

But I do remember when an ex astronaut came to Melbourne to sell DC9's to Reg Ansett and my father took him to a Carlton-Collingwood Grand Final with Ted Whitten, (VFL you northern folk).

We were more impressed about getting tickets on a Friday than the fact the guy went to the moon.

So it's true, I know someone who knows someone. :D

Yep ................. have definitely seen the reports of Land Rover tracks and oil puddles found on the moon. :D

........ but what disturbs me is that the flag in all pictures is waving, like in wind in an environment that has no atmosphere........

That has been fully explained on dozens or maybe hundreds of sites.

Every piece of "evidence" offered by the conspiracy theorists is merely evidence of their limited understanding of photography or some aspect of engineering or science.

If there's any doubt about our ability to get to the moon it will be demonstrated in the race to get helium 3.

For those that are interested, there is a very good book of one man's experience with the Moon landings I highly recommend.
"Flight - My life in Mission Control" by Chris Kraft.
A bloody good read if you're interested in that stuff. It's an amazing story.
If there's any doubt about our ability to get to the moon it will be demonstrated in the race to get helium 3.
That reminds me, I there are any SciFi fans reading this, there was a very good low budget film, Moon, which was about a helium 3 mining operation.

workingonit

...there you are conspiracy theorists, they're already rolling out the fake helium 3 mining footage. There will have to be fake helium 3 reactor footage...fake footage of consumers using the electricity...fake meltdowns. :)

I'm tipping they have way more power than the Space Shuttle.

What is interesting is all those that went to the moon were test pilots, all but one.
In the last mission they sent a geologist, Harrison Schmitt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Schmitt).
You know, they learnt more about the geology of the moon from that mission than from all the hundreds of kg's of rock collected from all the other missions. That was because Dr Schmitt knew what to collect. Dr Schmitt's space suit was also the dirtiest that ever returned and has never been cleaned.

A dozen people have been up there and they left a bloody mess, not cleaning up their campsite and leaving all their crap behind.
Not setting a good example at all.

Reason nobody has been back (that we know about....).
OHS and politicians that can't handle bad news and risk.

Recently read the book "Moondust: In Search Of The Men Who Fell To Earth"
The writer/journo set out to interview those still alive that made the trip.
Interesting read.
