Hey guys
So I got a r380 that required some bearings no dramas rebuilt new bearings all good selected well but we cracked the 4th gear syncro ring. So a quick center removal ( left bell housing and main casing on back of motor removed the internals).
Replace syncro ring on 4th all good now I have issues of can't select First / Second or Third on the roll but fourth and fifth are easy up or down. I have check the gate springs they are fine there is no crunching in fourth or fifth. But it seems like the box is grabbing ( has drive not enough to move the car thou) in neutral. The gears feel like they are been blocked, Now if i put the t/f case into neutral I can select all the gears fine and easy. Oil used is the penrite trans gear 75W-80 if that makes a difference used it both times.

Sounds like the clutch has not been bled properly or the clutch plate has been fitted in backwards.
In any case the drive to the main shaft is not being disengaged enough to select gears. Selecting neutral in the transfer and having the box operate as expected is evidence.

Re ......... But it seems like the box is grabbing ( has drive not enough to move the car thou) in neutral.
Not all the syncro rings are the same. From memory so might be wrong, but I think 4th has a different ring (single) to 1/2/3 (double). Maybe the wrong rings (too thick) got fitted and is jamming the input and main shafts? That's all I can think of to create drive in neutral.
cheers Ian

Thanks Strangey I have bleed the clutch again as you suggested. It is better I can now get gears with double clutching and playing with the revs, 4th and 5th are fine no double clutching required.
Thanks Istevo I double checked the syncro ring with the old one it was identical before fitting it.
I am thinking maybe I have the wrong rod in the slave cylinder I believe I am using the short rod not sure length will have to try and get it out to double check not sure if that makes a difference.

maybe if I drive it for a few kms in 2nd or 3rd maybe what ever is binding will wear down sounds silly and i am grasping at straws I know
