While I am wary of the political rule on here, there is something quite news-worthy afoot in our election this year some of you may get a chuckle out of.
It involves a right wind blogger calling himself "Whaleoil" and being quite a toxic fellow he called a dead west coast boy 'feral' and many other people other real nasty names. Someone took umbrage at this and hacked his computer while it was conveniently under siege with a denial of service attack or something. Some of what the hacker found on the 'whaleoil" computer was released to a well known investigative journo called Nicky Hager who subsequently wrote a book on attack politics in NZ called Dirty Politics (Dirty Politics | How attack politics is poisoning New Zealand's political environment (http://dirtypoliticsnz.com/) some interesting links to the subsequent media stories). This book was released just over a week or so ago and our election campaign has been turned upside down several times.
Now that the book has been published, there were many who called on Nicky to release the hacked data the book was based on. The hacker refused to let him do so as he wanted to do it.

The hacker is now releasing 'dumps' of emails that have been called Whaledumps, this stemming from his twitter account. https://twitter.com/whaledump
The irony is heavy in the air here in NZ interwebs at present.
All very interesting stuff. The PM has spent the last week fighting off some serious accusations and dodging his own petards. Almost been hoist by a couple. Seems there are some seriously questionable aspects to how he has used his time as the minister in charge of the nations security services. Also cringe-worthy is the behavior of our justice minister.
Anyway... if you are interested in our wee election over here.
There are enough news stories in here to even keep ctrl+V happy
