View Full Version : Charging on short trips

I am currently using my Defender to travel to work as well as move from one workplace to another, so in a day my trips would be 3km, then 6km, then 6km, then 3km home. With the wet weather at the moment, I am wondering how long it takes to charge the battery, especially when lights and heater are on. It is a TDi with the original alternator.

Hi jeff, and while having a few accessories/appliances on will draw power but you will not effect the charging of a single battery.
The problem for your battery is that you need at least 15 minutes of constant driving to replace, note not fully charge your battery, but just replace the amount of energy you used to start your motor.
It would be a major benefit for your battery if you put a battery charger on your battery over night, every few days, to not only charge the battery but to maintain it in good condition.
Cheers, Tim.
