Engine rebuild parts?

I am looking to take the engine out of Peggy next weekend and stripping it down so that I can order parts ready for the holiday. I have spoken to my local dealer and read a lot of posts and am a little confused as to where to get the parts.
Should I use genuine LR parts, OM, or aftermarket? Cost ranges greatly.
Should I use LR parts in some places and aftermarket in others? If this is a good idea where should I use the LR parts?

That's a hard one.
Part of the problem is the use of the wording OEM, OEM quality etc. etc. which to be honest doesn't mean much at all and is just a way of making the parts appear more valuable. There is no way of backing up the claims unless the part has the manufacturers' details on it.
Land Rover themselves wouldn't still make parts for Series vehicles but would be able to source from good suppliers, problem is the part goes through several sets of hands so the price quickly rises.

Some aftermarket parts are OK some are poor. Someone on here a while ago rebuilt a diesel motor using Britpart pistons, I wonder how it's going now ?
Engine reconditioners (if you can find one) would still be able to source the main parts through the trade network but could be more expensive.

Major items on the engine like pistons, shell bearings, valves etc. I would try and get from a reputable supplier but the aftermarket parts might be OK. It's a bit of a gamble.

I agree with Colin - let your engine re-conditioner choose the parts; their reputation relies on no nasty things going wrong later.

My re-conditioner can supply good quality parts such as ACL, cheaper than any of the retailers in town :D

I'd suggest that where it really makes a difference as to the quality as its in a component you really don't want to be having to get to every 2-3years , ie engine internals, buy the best you can afford.
Genuine LR is steep but its lasted 45years...

Other stuff thats accessible and easily changed save some coin and use pattern parts
