Hi all. Cire70 is picking up his 2013 SDV6 D4 SE tomorrow, and wants me to change the oil and filter when he gets back from QLD. As I'm his LR advisor :-o I want to make sure the oil is satisfactory from a warranty point of view, as the vehicle has balance of new car warranty, and I don't want to put a "non-approved" or below LR spec oil in it. It'll be a full drain. Price is not as important as warranty protection.

Please advise an oil for it.

Thanks

Good Question.
I have the balance of a 20lt drum of synthetic oil in the shed that I run in my TD5s,its not compliant. Also have a couple of litres of Castrol Edge Synthetic that I used to run in the TD5s,it also isnt compliant.Living in a country town I need to aquire some on my next city trip for any top-ups needed.
How are you going to drain the oil??? to they have a sump plug anymore??? Mine has an oil suction point.

There is a sump plug if you look hard enough but you will have to remove some under body protection first to see it.

Must take your word for it.
When we did the delivery I was shown the oil extraction point,no sump plug was mentioned.
Cheers

What does the manual say? Recommend you do not, under any circumstances, use anything other than that mandated by LR or the warranty will be kaput ASAP.

The manual says my 2 types of oil are not compatable, will take the handbook into Repsupacrud etc and get a litre to match.

Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5w - 30 Product No. 3369740 in a 20 litre drum. Covs have it listed, but may have to buy it in for you. Not cheap, but it is the recommended oil for the 2.7. It is the oil the LR dealers use. you would have to check that it is the Ok for the 3.0 litre

I changed the oil in mine in the middle between its 26000km intervals and use the fully synthetic oil 5w30, you have to remove all the bash guards underneath and the sump plug is on the drivers side of the sump on the side not bottom. They do recommend putting a new sump plug each time i was told they are about $12 each and the oil filter is on the top of the engine in the V i think underneath the plastic cover.

Is this Magnatec available in 1L or 5L containers???
I only want some for topups if needed.

Thanks Dazray. Both those attachments do not specifically mention the SDV6 though, only the TDV6...

Castrol Australia do not provide a crankcase oil on the online selector, just a number to call for a technician!

Don't overfill the oil! The level sensor is very slow to show a topped-up level so be sure to wait plenty of time if you don't measure the oil (5.9L IIRC)

Below is LR's oil change procedure.

Penrite do list one though, Enviro C4+ 5w-30.

I hope you know how to do the oil filter - put it in the wrong way and a dead engine is a possible outcome.

I work on the principle of read the instructions, read them again, take it apart, look at the parts, read the instructions a third time, put it back together, check the instructions again, pray, start car, lol

Andrew,

You will need to determine if your vehicle has a DPF or not

The specs are
WSS-M2C913-B/C for non DPF

WSS-M2C934-B forn DPF

For my non DPF TDVV6 I use
Total Quartz 900 Future NFC 5W30

You can get 5 litre packs quite cheap from Golden west Lubricant in Maddington

Castrol do make a oil for a sdv6 is 400 bucks for a 20 l drum. I bought one before i realised that my car had come with purchased services. It's called Castrol c1 i believe and will do those crazy 24k services the rep told me that the dealers do not use it. Most doing 12k servicing use a synthetic turbo based oil. I spoke to land rover mechanic at Mackay dealership he confirmed it.

If you use the "Castrol Trade Netlube" guide it will give you the specs.

As per above, for DPF models which the selector says is 2013-14 you will need Castrol Edge Professional C1 5W-30. You can buy it, but minimum size is a 20L drum.

Thanks Silkhammer, that's the exact precise info I was looking for.

From further research, any oil used must meet spec WSS-M2C934/B or ACEA:C2.

No problems, have just gone through the same process myself!

Based on my experience, try to find a Castrol "distributor" not just a "stockist". $ might be better.

And available overseas only in 1l and 5l, but I assume shipping is the drama.

Anyone checked out Ford dealers for branded, smaller quantities of the same spec stuff?

If you look on the Valvoline net lube site you will see the D4 MY2014 uses Synpower C1 5w/30 full synthetic.

Same oil as the Puma 2.4.completely different to the D4 2.7 which uses Synpower FE,as do most late model ford engines, including the 2.2l Puma,(but not the 3l D4).

I picked up 20l(smallest size available) of Synpower C1 5w/30 for the Puma for $220 on our account at autobarn,Supercheap wanted $325.

MR auto use Valvoline oils in all the LR's they service.

But i recon for top ups you are better using the same oil that is in the vehicle, mixing oils should be avoided if possible.

In 15yrs of owning LR's,i have never had to top one up.
