Hello guys and gals,

I have recently noticed a whine from the engine bay of my 2003 Td6 and narrowed it down to the Viscous Fan Fluid Clutch. After getting a price off my local dealer i naturally went online for a more reasonable price.

I have found many cheaper options but the one thing which stands out is if i place a search for the same part from a BMW X5 there are far more cheaper options.

My belief is most parts are the same however i would just like to confirm the following part is included in this list of items?

Radiator Viscous CLG Fan Clutch for BMW E36 E46 E39 E34 E32 E53 11 52 7 505 302 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/RADIATOR-VISCOUS-CLG-FAN-CLUTCH-for-BMW-E36-E46-E39-E34-E32-E53-11-52-7-505-302-/400183420586?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ABMW|Model%3AX5&hash=item5d2cca66aa&vxp=mtr)

Kind Regards, James.

I doubt that one would work, but happy to be corrected. It says it suits a naturally aspirated petrol engine. Not sure what engines the Yanks got in the X5's, but I doubt they ever saw the TD6 over there.

If it looks the same you are probably part way there. There can be differences on the direction the fan spins therefore the thread that is used on the shaft could be left or right hand. I doubt that there will be much difference between a diesel or petrol motor in terms of clutch fans, the cooling system temperature is controlled by the thermostat, the fan clutch might have different temperature threshold but I doubt it. At that sort of price it is probably worth a punt.
