My local independent has given me the following quote:

Transmission (double) flush (including intercooler) and Pan Filter change $1400
Transfer Box fluid change $150
Front and Rear Diff oil change $150 (e-diff fluid)

competitive or not.. dread to think what a LR quote is, so will test that out tomorrow.. Anyone had that done lately by either a Franchise or independent LR specialist.. be interested in the costs incurred

Vehicle is on 94K and should have done the transfer/diffs before its Cape Trip as a precautionary but ran out of time

Thanks

Most people charge about $900 to change the pan to the metal one a a flush.

Transfer case fluid is about $110 from landrover so the cost for the transfer case is about right.

Diffs are about right.

Tfr and diffs are easy to do yourself so a bit cheaper.

Under extended warranty so want no nasty surprises if something goes wrong with any of the components.. the Indie is doing a full flush (including transmission cooling system which they say most miss), pan/filter replacement and then 2nd fill, are you saying that can be done for about $900 or is $1400 on the money for that ?

Thanks

I was quoted around $900 for the job and on the basis of information in this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/125041-disco-3-4-automatic-transmission-faq.html (see from mid June on for latest info) that would seem to be at the top and of the range.

Have you done much towing or off road work?

If not it is unlikely you will need a double flush. I had mine done at just over 100K and the transmission specialist checked the filter and fluid, the fluid was nice and clean and there was nothing in the filter. In this case only the fluid in the pan was replaced (4.5l). Cost was $700 for metal pan, filter, replacement fluid and labour.
My car had never towed until I got it. I will have the transmission serviced every 50K now as I tow a camper intermittently and go off-road once or twice a month.

I'm currently in the process of getting my auto box oil changed and steel pan conversion. I've been quoted $857 for the job (Bris).

They said if I did a lot of towing, they can fit an additional cooler(?) to the auto box, for an additional $600-$800 (I can't remember the figure - I may be slightly out, but in the ballpark)...
Is that what they mean for $1400?

The other prices look pretty standard.
And you're right - L/R dealer will be as dear as.... I was quoted $1800 for the auto box flush and steel pan conversion (I think most of the increase is based on $90/litre ++ :o they charge for the Lifeguard 6 oil).

Very rare, but it just did 2K hard towing at the Cape with many off road, creek crossings, corrugations, etc with a 1 ton camper trailer on the back.. so used low range a fair bit..

Will check out the other thread..They did state that they will flush all lines and the cooler, which usually means nearly double the fluid of a usual box flush and refill.. and they have a good reputation

It seems around 800 - 900 gets you on average a drain and refill rather than a full flush and refill, one quote was 1100 plus GST, so 1200, i am being quoted 1400 inclusive of GST.. so will see if i can haggle it down a bit and double check its a metal pan they are changing to.

But if it is done via the cooler hoses you only need to drain and refill. Cost is still around $900.
