New to LR's few questions about my perenties

Hello Everyone...

Over the last year I have purchased a few perenties including a very good condition FFR, a very good condition 6x6 (mortar carrier variant, I think) and two rough incomplete 4 door senior commanders...

My plans for these vehicles is to use them for my apiary business (bee-keeping). As well as using the FFR for a bit of fun, off-road trips, fishing and all that good stuff and one day turning the 6x6 into a camper. Rebuilding the senior commanders and Doing a little bit of prospecting in remote areas.

A few questions I've had a bit of look around the remlr site and just wondering how I find out the ARN for my vehicles that everyone talks about.

Secondly I want to remove one of the PTO winch from the senior commander and put it on my FFR along with the heavy duty bull bar just wondering if this is possible and what's involved?

So far on my FFR I have changed out the oils with the oil recommendations I have found on this site as well as lubes, diffs ect and gave it a really, really thorough clean getting all the dirt out of everywhere, replaced all batteries. Installed a 24v to 12v converter in the power box in rear changed those plugs to various 12v outlets for fridge, custom stereo box ect...

One last thing this is a great site, glad I found it as it's been very helpful...

You should have got the books at the auction and they were probably on the windscreen. In the absence of those go the REMLR website (not forum) and look on the ARN pages. ARN Perentie Lists -REMLR (http://remlr.com/ARN/ARNs_perentie.html)

If you can still navigate your way to the auction pages for the vehicles you bought (through your Gray's account) the ARNs are written on that page with the rest of the information about the vehicle.

Switching bullbars from old to new style is easy, I've done it myself. I'm sure the winch would swap straight over too, but if you give me one of your winches I'd be happy to trial the conversion for you. You know, to be sure... :p

I found the ARN numbers on Grays not really sure what i do with them though...

Yeah I've hoped underneath and the winch parts I can see from PTO to winch all looks easy enough... I'm more interested in the engagement drive under seat and any parts I can't see before I pull it all apart and find out I need to swap half the perentie over??

Several people have expressed frustration shimming up the PTO, so it may actually be easier to swap the entire gearbox.

I think I've decided I will just fit an electric winch to my FFR as when I was playing with them yesterday I realised that you really need two people to operate the PTO winch as they are set-up now. Because someone has to feed winch cable on and someone has to sit in car otherwise it could become tangled around back of winch drum very easy and do some serious damage... Where as the new electric winch's feed on nicely and are a bit more user friendly as I will be using it a lot more often on the FFR and by myself this is the best option.... The senior commanders will have two people present most of the time...

umm, mostly use my PTO solo........how is an electric winch going to lay the rope on any better? I haven't seen any electric winches that have the mechanism to lay the rope on evenly...they all bind up on a long winch

If you have a look at the new electric winches they have steel rods one at the front and one at the back connecting the two edges of the winch drum. This combined with a solid one piece fairlead means that while the rope can can bundle up it is impossible for it to drop off the winch drum and keep winding around the edge of drum ect doing damage. If you look at the PTO winch currently in use it can come off and keep winding in a number of places... It's hard to explain but if you look at a new style winch and then look at the PTO winch you will see what I mean...

Also modern winches come with wireless/wired remotes :-)
