I am , was not to Indonesia that the Abbott team donate some of our old boats to help them secure their borders?
If yes, then looks like that they have the money to purchase their own boats.
Bugger if I know...................

I think those boats we gave them was a sweetener to get them on side regarding boat people. Indonesia is manufacturing the new missiles, with Chinese help. Iran is doing the same, with the same missiles. To my knowledge, we do not have that capability. The Indonesians, of course, have the right to defend their Nation. Bob

Forgot about that, that's a winner. Let me tell you about Ikara. We went on a show the flag cruise in 1973, Mauritius, Kenya, Ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore. In Ethiopia, The then Emperor Haile Selassie was entertained on board by the Skipper, he bought with him an entire motorised Battalion , as his escort. We were forced to stay in the club provided for European, & American oil workers. Drinking beer. Tough, but some one had to do it. But back to Ikara..... Australia was trying to sell Ikara to the World, and Iran had shown an interest. This was back in the day of the Shah. A demonstration was organised , Derwent fired the weapon, we had dignitaries on board , the big mistake was, no one had tested Ikara in sand storm conditions.
Murphy's law, a sand storm turned up, some how interrupting the signals from ship to missile, missile did not travel the planned trajectory, actually , for a short time, headed in our direction. Stiff upper lips all round. Ikara was last seen headed in a westerly direction, never seen again. But, it was a good weapon, away from sand storms. Better than ASROC, from all accounts. Just an aside, Haille Sellasie & the Shah of Iran were deposed not long after. We weren't sent back to that area for a while, hope it wasn't something we did. Bob :p

Worries me that we put an surplus 2nd WW bofors gun on our Patrol Boats and these Asian countries install modern weaponry including anti ship missiles on their patrol boats. We seem to have this policy of underarming all our main Navy ships, its like, we can just afford the ships.. but armaments .. whoops, out of money, lets raid the change jar and see what we have left :mad:
