How rare are these - did they make many extended cabs 130s?
I’m looking at one at the moment, it is a 1997 130 300tdi Extra cab ute.
It has about 220,000klm on it, a Maxi Drive rear locker, long range tank, snorkel, bullbar, sidesteps.
Rust is not an issue although there is some behind the driver’s seat on a flat metal cross plate - looks to me like it would clean up or maybe replace the flat bar.
Can’t find any flaky rust anywhere.
My question is - what is it worth?
I know a lot depends on motor ect but I’d be interested in a ball park range given the description.
Thanks
Dave

I am not a Defender person, but I did not think there was a factory extra cab made on any chassis. Does it look factory or at least professionally done ??

Seems to be a few around when I Google it, not sure if they are genuine or something else - photo attached

They're not 'factory' as such but were converted by Land Rover Australia using a few different body builders prior to sale.
As there were a few builders, each had their own way of doing the job. Some have oval windows, some rectangular. Some had a whole new roof, some extended the original.

Hi Nugg, I own one and the story I was told was that a bunch were made to order by a Qld body works, name unknown. My cab roof looks like it was made up from two single-cab sections but the roof liner is clearly custom made and a very neat piece of work. My vehicle is a TD5 , 2000 my, and was purchased by Telstra and came with all the extras I would have bought. It has a reinforced rear axle housing, long range tank , Warn winch, snorkel, bullbar, driving lights, water tank, extra battery etc. It was originally equipped with a large , and heavy , aluminium trades body but I have changed that for a tray as it allows me to carry my Trayon camper. The extra space in the cab is marvellous if you are taller than average. My seats are set back about 100mm and it makes all the difference. In typical Defender style, it is not waterproof. Hope this is useful. Cheers, 130man.

nugg,
pull the floor mats up and have a very close look where your heels will sit. The firewall is double skinned and any bubbling is not good. have a look from the outside as well.
it will be hard to pick for any transmission faults/funny noises with those tyres on it.
As for price what he is asking is dreaming. 8 - 9 k tops

Thanks for all the input - he is asking $10k. I've attatched a photo with the driver's floor mat lifted.
You might be surprised at the current prices for decent Land Rovers.
I've been looking with a pocket full of cash for about four weeks, I'm yet to find a 130 for under $10,000 unless it has 400,000 plus Klm or full of rust.
Not only that but there are not many single cab 130's around let alone extra cabs.
Cheers

the bit behind the pedals with the new paint is the critical bit. have a look from the outside as well for blistering and check the passenger side as well. the flat panel in the floor is ally.

Hi, I too have a big cab 1999 and it was initially a Vic water board one with tray set back for spare wheels and tool boxes between cab and tray, has salsbury etc and normally carries my Northstar slide on with rear air bags, dual rear shocks to control roll etc. We got it for $15K a few years ago so they are not cheap if in good condition. Since then we have rebuilt the 300Tdi and fitted a new disco auto, disco front seats (have to be hinged to access underseat boxes) and second battery. Ours was white, now black and one piece roof with custon fibreglass hood and nice grey fabric like the initial Counties.Ours had no rust at all and has rounded rear side windows behind the door pillar. If you can get one go for it--they are so comfortable with the extra cabin room, seats can be slid well back and they are thus the nicest of the Defender utes. We looked at getting one done for a puma as in Sydney I think Phillips Bros did them for LRA for as mentioned buyers like Telstra etc. but it became too involved so we bought this Tdi one. Good luck.

Good luck.Phillips Fabrications were one of the body builders. At the time, they were across the road from the Parramatta LR dealership I worked in.
They've since moved & were getting big in the fire truck business:

Is that headboard bent back or is that just distortion cause by the camera lens and the angle from which the photo was taken?

Yeah looks bent to me - don't care as I'll be ****ing it off and building a lock up canopy for the back.

I've got an ex-Telstra 130 Extra Cab:

It was manufactured by Falcon Engineering up in Darwin, according to the stickers on the canopy and the mudflaps.
It's a 2001 TD5 with a Wolf diff/axle on the rear, dual batteries, snorkel, water tank, long range fuel tank. It is a very nice stretch job. The roof looks like it might have been bought from land rover, as there are no "home-made" fabrication marks on it.
I reckon you'll look for a LONG time to try and pick one up for $10K. We paid $20K for ours, but that was 5 or 6 years ago, with 120,000 on the clock.

Thanks - That's something like I want to end up with.
I'm looking at a 1997 300tdi with 225,00klm for $10k at the moment.
There is one small patch of rust behind the seat, I got him to take some pics from under the car and it has cracked through.
Not a major thing but would need repairing.
