Hi All,

Recently I converted my Range Rover Classic V8 to a 300tdi, I just got the mod plate done and I was concerned that I got charged for a whole lot of mods.
Which are:
1. Engine Mod - happy with this one as I did change to engine to diesel
2. Turbo Mod - questioning this one as the 300tdi is factory turbo.
3. Gearbox mod - I did use a 300tdi gearbox
4. Fuel Tank mod - Questioning this one as all I did was remove the fuel pump out of the tank.

I've got the plate now so I can get the RWC to get it regisitered but All up I got Charged around $330.

Do these mods I got charged for look ok or did the inspector take me for a ride?

I'd be questioning #2 and #4

From what I understand, the mod plate only states which ADRs the vehicle conforms to. The turbo might be a different or separate ADR to the motor. The internal fuel pump may be a different ADR to an external fuel pump.
The engineer has certified the vehicle as presented.
What information is on the blue plate?

Sounds reasonable to me. Probably a very strict interpretation of the rules but at least you are covered.

Thanks Guys, I'll post the codes up tomorrow.

Not much can be done now, i was just a bit shocked as to what he came up with.

the turbo should have been covered as part of the engine swap.

if the fuel tank structure remained the same and all that was changed was that the in-tank pump was removed, its not a plate-able modification to the fuel system, and as it stands, modifying the fuel system to cater for a diesel shouldve been part of the engine swap....

Strictly speaking they are all modifications to the Range Rover's original specs, not sure why it's a big drama.

Engine changed
method of induction changed
fuel type changed including filler neck, cap & warning label perhaps
transmission changed.

When dealing with bureaucracy, getting through unscathed is the main thing.:)

$330 to have an engineer sign off sounds reasonable to me.

The turbocharger is standard fitment for the engine going into the vehicle, so isnt considered a seperate modification.

I went though this a few months back with Queensland Transport when I was considering putting a turbo setup on my falcon 'ute

By thier rules, if I simply added an aftermarket turbo kit to the original engine, I'd need to get it mod plated.

BUT

If I did an engine swap using the engine from an XR6 turbo, either a sedan or ute, I dont need to do anything other than inform Queensland Transport of the engine change, no approvals or inspections needed because its an engine already offered in that model range....

The funny part? Once I have a factory turbo engine fitted, I can modify it to my hearts content, and I dont have to worry about a thing..... If I wanted to fit an aftermarket kit (identical to an upgrade for a factory turbo motor), I'd be looking at possible emissions testing, engineering approval, braking upgrades, etc....
