Morning;

Its been suggested I re post this in the General Chat!. So here goes again:

New to the site as will be apparent but like everyone sometime in there life I want to buy a landrover, however like most people I don't know too much about them. One came across my eye on eBay (link below) which I thought looked pretty good over the weekend. Now I know this must happen a lot but can someone give me some advice on this vehicle (I know it's only a URL to eBay) and things I should be careful off if I go to look at it. Unfortunately I'm no mechanic and don't really know too much about diesels either! But I'm willing to learn and will value any feedback regarding its condition and price!! Now obviously I can't show you inside..... Yet but all opinions welcome.

I'm going to look at it this weekend hopefully!

Thanks in advance!

If you use the search button (look up way over .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .... ^^^ here)
and Im sure there are threads about what to look for when buying a defender (need to be signed in to search)

That's what I was thinking too Baz; seeming as he has not had anyone buy it and I've seen him re-list it too. I asked him what his reserve was as his starting bid is 13k and it says reserve has not been met I presume its somewhere in between? I reckon for 13k I couldn't go wrong?

That blue defender in Cairns appears to be in mint condition, I was going to have a look at it while viewing another up that way but I was too slow and missed out :(

I've just purchased a '96 300tdi in excellent condition for half the price of the one in the original post :)

I think I've seen it around. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it looks pretty tidy and well looked after. I used to work in Kambalda and think I know where I've seen it.

You missed out by a couple of days on me being available to go down there for a look-see. I've just been home for nearly a week - drove back down to Perth for work yesterday afternoon.

Depending on when you want to go out there for a look - I might be able to put you on to my young bloke, depending on what shift he's on. He's a diesel fitter / mechanic in Kalgoorlie, and he has my old Discovery with the same engine etc as the one you're looking at, so he knows his way around them pretty well.

Hey Buddy
Thanks for the reply. Your spot on the money with its location; its a shame you've gone back to Perth. I have the guy hopefully ringing me tomorrow to come and have a look at it, I presume over the weekend or after work during the week some i'm flexible with times. If your son has a spare hour or two to come and have a look with me I'd sought him out.! If you could ask him that would be great and much appreciated. I also get the impression that its well looked after but you never know.

Hit me up if you have any luck!

Just got a message back from the young bloke. Unfortunately he's also back at work on day shift, started this morning. He was also on break when I was home over the weekend - roster is 4 day, 4 night, 4 off - so it'll be about a week until he's got time off again.

If you can get the Defender into Kalgoorlie, give Jimmy Ah Chee a call at Diesel Gas Australia on 0408 934 443. Jim's not a Landrover expert (he's done a bit of work on my D2, but it's not what he specializes in) - but he's a bloody good mechanic.

Alternatively, you could try Stefan's Mechanical Service in Kambalda on 9027 1693. They're over in the light industrial area in Kambalda West. Old Stef lives in the house out the back of the business - he's retired but a bit of a Jeep and Landrover fanatic (more so Jeep - if you go there, ask to have a look at his ex-military Jeep and Trailer). His son runs the business now - good mechanic, but probably not a lot of experience with Land Rovers.

The bloke who owns the panel beating business in Clianthus Street just round the corner from Stef in the industrial area is a bit of a Land Rover buff - drives a white Disco 1 Tdi. He might be worth talking to if you can't find anyone else up there with Land Rover knowledge. Kambalda is only a small town - they will probably both know the vehicle you're looking at.

Well spotted.

Odd thing is it isn't inserted backwards, the writing is the correct way round for the fan speed switch, radio buttons are 'normal' layout, and the right hand gauge is in it parked position to the left.

Yet the first pic shows it as being RHD.
