Mudlo rocks bad news,as for the 5th wheeler, hard to feel sympathy for sheer stupidity:mad:After easter at inskip we had a big motor home driving down every sand track he could find, and getting stuck! Why do people leave their brains at home when on holidays:confused:

I remember when we lived at Port Stephens that a family with more money than brains who were visiting the Bay drove a new Audi A8 down onto a beach thinking that as the Audi was 4 wheel drive it could go anywhere a 4x4 could. It was dragged out just before the tide got it but only just.

I struggle to understand how people get in these situations.

Mudlo rocks is no different from thousands of other locations and potential obstacles for a 4wd... you need to assess the situation at the time.

I've driven through there several times with no drama... I've also, more than once, taken the alternative way around - as it was simply too risky.

Maybe I just chicken out faster than some.... but really these guys amaze me.

When I worked at Leyland Truck and Bus, T&B assumed distribution of LR & RR from Annand & Thompson on 1/7/73. So we got a few LR & RR company vehicles and demonstrators. A RR was "lost at sea" on Moreton Island, a station wagon tumbled sideways down the face of a steep dune on Fraser, and an 88" diesel workshop ute was submerged at Redland Bay whilst the crew had their backs turned hooking muddies out of their holes. Didn't notice the tide coming in. Our GM quickly sent the word around that in future anyone who took a company vehicle onto a beach was in serious danger of losing their job.

Back in I think 1988 I rode the bike up there, staying at RB. Awesome place, have since been back a couple of times with a 4x4 :D

But whilst there with the bike, we got to watch at those rocks an older Toyo which had had a lot of money poured into it, via Chevy V8, new panels and seating, stereo etc, get totally destroyed. Cab/Motor separated from chassis which ended up twisted. The owner was devastated. But, he deserved it in a way.

Several of us went onto the beach to help him by lifting it over the single rock which had him hung up, he wouldn't listen to anyone on what needed to be done,,, reckoned he knew it all, and was quite happy to tell us all. In the end, it was too dangerous for us to be able to help him due to his trying to power out of it at the wrong times, so we all left it to him.

The best thing about it, was just prior to him being stuck, an old LWB LR came through to where the rocks started, reversed up to the cliff face, parked up, went to the pub, came back down just after the Toyo guy left the scene,, and drove off back to Double Point.

Can you insure for stupidity? Obviously insurance companies wouldn't be to happy. Trouble with these anywhere policies, people think Water is also part of a gazetted track. And who pays by higher insurance policies?
