I just got my 2005 TD5 Defender back from having my Steering issues worked on. Not knowing much about steering, and not having a press for the bushes, I let the professional handle it.

I had Rene at Landy Centre in Cairns repair it, so a big Thank You to Rene!!

The bushes were original, and the only work done previously was pre-load adjustment. It is amazing the difference in how the car behaves. He changed the Tack rod, Steering damper, and radius arm bushes. (the whole tack rod was replaced, as the ends were rusted on)

The rubber bushes seem to fail slowly, so I didn't notice how sloppy the steering was becoming over the years, until the dreaded "death wobbles" started to occur at around 85kph. Steering is now crisp, and sharp (for a Defender).

So those out there, with sloppy steering I recommend getting it checked out. Is an easy and relatively in expensive procedure to rectify.

Cheers,

Ken
