For a little while now the suspension air compressor has been running a bit longer than normal and today I got my first suspension fault orange fault light. Car parked in my slightly steep drive with the engine on - was trying ot level the car but just couldn't do it so spat the dummy.
As the compressor is still working OK I assume the desiccant is all clogged up and the compressor is having problems sucking. I suppose I could change the desiccant and the other bits but I was thinking of changing over to the AMK.
I have seen them on Ebay Aust for $500 but there are none there now (should have got one when they were there). So where are people buying their AMK compressors from in the UK and what sort of price are we looking at. Other than the compressor itself and the software up date is there anything else that has to be purchased at the same time.
Thanks
Garry

Garry, the complete kit comes with new plastic cover, hoses, fittings and a new main relay. At $500 I would be sceptical that is actually a complete 'kit'. There is nothing else you have to buy. A word of caution about ebay sales of electrical bits, make sure the item being sold to you wasn't part of a product recall/QC issue, and is being offloaded on e'bay.

Thanks JC - yes you are correct they were air compressors only so I would have had to get the other bits.

I see Britpart UK can now supply genuine Hitachi compressors[made in Japan].Think they are about £300.

Yes - I read that as well - but if you have to replace it, why would you not go with the AMK.

The only reason I can think of to go with hitachi is if your compressor is still ok and in need of a rebuild kit then changing over to another hitachi and rebuilding the old one will net you a spare that slots straight in.
From a performance point of view, my AMK is far better than my old hitachi. That said, who knows how they'd go brand new and back to back (I think the AMK is quieter and performs better).

I recently replaced my old hitachi with a new hitachi as I am 1400kms from the nearest service Center so wouldn't be able to get it software updated. The hitachi is fine I reckon.

It's also worthwhile replacing the exhaust valve on the compressor for the $20.00 that the kit costs. I've done this twice on my Hitachi compressor now and it has fixed orange suspension light issue both times. My compressor was replaced under warranty and is the last revision of the Hitachi one though.

Pity all the pictures have gone, photobucket must have rearranged them.

Well seeing that you are at work and posting on AULRO you obviously have the time to go back into the link and into photobucket and recreate the pic links :).
My tax dollars at work on AULRO - love it :D

I had to replace my whole compressor thanks to that 20 dollar exhaust valve. The bolt holding it in had seized with white corrosion / heat and wouldn't budge. It snapped when trying to remove it. I anti seized everything before installing the new compressor so next time hopefully I can rebuild it. Will have to drill, retap etc my old compressor as a spare.

I recently replaced my old hitachi with a new hitachi as I am 1400kms from the nearest service Center so wouldn't be able to get it software updated. The hitachi is fine I reckon. The AMK runs without the s/w update as the update is primarily to reduce the reservoir pressure to save the compressor from having to pump so hard. However with the s/w update the compressor will last longer so best to get it done sooner rather than later.

I got my new AMK compressor from LRDirect.com for $900 AU delivered from the UK.
I installed it myself and got MLR to do the software update for $174.
I thought the price for the update was a bit steep.

I'm so happy that my Hitachi compressor was replaced with an AMK - just before warranty ran out recently. The Hitachi was taking about 2.5 minutes to go from standard height to offroad height and then would not move any more until it cooled down.
As a side note, the "fart" noise the AMK makes is different to the Hitachi. :D

The hitachi is cheap and easy to rebuild. I have done a couple and they are like new once done
